Engine Managmement Systems for Dyno Tuning

Strange!

"Systems we do not tune:

We consider these systems unsafe to drive on or unstable so we do not offer tuning for them.
NepTune / NepTune RTP
Crome / Crome Pro
Uberdata
Ectune
Emanage / Emanage Ultimate
AEM FIC
A'PEXi SAFC / VAFC / NEO"

I wonder why they consider it unsafe to drive on OR unstable... Aren't these guys pretty big in the tuning world? I can sort of understand Crome, is Hondata really that amazing that everyone supports it but not Neptune/Crome?

Its most likely just a preference.

What exactly is wrong with crome btw?

Same for ectune, uberdata, and neptune. At a fundamental level this sh** is all the same, and guess where it came from. Crome.
Nothing I started with Crome Pro. Lost my license and got zero support from John (the author).

I just liked how Neptune had the RTP Demon, and find the system a bit more sleek and functional; could datalog and write to the ECU from the same USB with less hardware which was attractive.

Software wise, I would think they are similar but Neptune has a few better features such as the anti theft feature, and I like how the UI is laid out better with the guages etc.

My guess/.02

The only tuning softwares they offer to tune is the higher end expensive stuff. Which keeps the Jo shmo shade tree mechanic away from their dyno. The more expensive tuning software they offer is typically for race engines built by race shops. Seems they are trying to phase out the little guy and start going for the bigger guys.

Bull crap i say.

More or less they are trying to sell you something.

I have used crome and the aem fic before. They both work and get the job done.
I am now on neptune and it works great.

Most tuner are scared of what they dontnunderstand and will make lies to push there items on you.

Jeff was actually my very first official dealer for NepTune. He used the software for years. There were issues with live update putting people into limp mode on the very first batch of the very first "NepTune RTP" hardware that Moates made. Bad latch chips. Jeff was invested because he had paid for a bunch of units when Moates figured out the issue and Moates had to recall/fix a lot of the first units that went out. Jeff and I had a falling out over all of that and they posted that they were no longer tuning with the system. The hardware was fine after that and Jeff got all of his money back.

A lot has changed since then. Demon 1 and Demon 2 hardware has been released. That's just a decision they made back then and they stuck with it.

Reminds me of the decision of never buying/using or tuning anyones car with Hondata, b/c of the crap they put PGMFI.org thru.

hondata basically paid them to shut out other systems and use hondata exclusively. That is the word of the wind.

Dont know if I fully believe it, but it sure sounds like hondata to shoulder tehir way around. Fuckers even got testy when I asked once or twice for flashpro for GE fits

I find that very difficult to believe. Considering I speak to the owner and one of the head tuners there at least monthly and speak with them at length in person a couple times a year.

You should be able to but if you don't familiarize yourself with the software it will be hard to use and be quick, try using a mac or Unix/Linux when you have used windows all your life. You can do it but you won't know all the shortcuts and only get around on the basics.

Should add "resourcefulness" to that lol.

If he doesnt want to tune with neptune, just say that..

Caling it unstable when theres thousands of satisfied owners/tunes/tuners using it is just bad business practice.

but its his shop and can do what he pleases.

Crome and other tuning setups required so much "bullshit" to work around it made it a PITA to tune with. If someone knew all that, it was easy...but a huge headache at times.

"I'd rather tune with Hondata than the other BS at times, it is stable" as heard as HE was tuning a car on Hondata while the lawsuit was going on.

I still tune alot of cars on crome most of my customers when they ask me what management system to go with I always recommend Neptune first then Crome...

I do not support hondata at all.. if someone has it already I will tune it but I wont tell a customer to purchase hondata over other systems, may just be my selfish ways but I was around long enough to see all the bs with pgmfi

someone saying Neptune is not good enough to tune with is just funny I have never had a single problem with it been a dealer for 3 years now and I am proud to be able to tune with Neptune

Ah shit, here we go!!!!

One lawyer, thinks he can get a huge payday for his client and himself with 35% commission, now see why I've been fighting current issues.

Also, with crowd funding being the "thing" now, Blundar was way ahead of everyone, as always!

Crome seems to either work really well or does not work worth a shit.
Long ago I had a Crome Pro license and had great results on 2 out of 3 cars I tuned with it. 1/3 of the cars I dealt with it on would not idle, had random weird hiccups and so on. I had chances to play with Hondata s100, s200, and then later the s300 and found the s300 to be awesome. I tried to get Neptune early on but they were blowing off EVERYONE that was not a big name, so I turned my back on them for shitty service.
Then got out of the scene, sold everything. ANd 5 years later built my CRX and gave Crome a try and man did it piss me off, between me trying to relearn it, and a good friend that tunes with it very often we could never get the car to idle right. Finally broke down and bought an s300 and it drives like stock again.

Sounds like they stick to what they know, what they like and what they have had good experiences with. Good for them, when you are a known and established shop your job isn't to fuck around with home built crap and try to figure out why shit doesn't work. Your job is to make things work well and work right.

Neptune has pretty good customer service now. HRTuning has a forum that has better support than almost anything I've ever dealt with in the past. With that said, I'm having some issues with my RTP Demon v2 right now. It could be a dead battery and it just lost the ROM, who knows. haha. I have to find my data cable.

I have always vouched for Neptune though. It is cheaper than Hondata and I've seen just as many people run it. I think Crome is great for stock cars or lightly modified cars. I had no issues with it prior to Neptune. With that said, I wouldn't boost on Crome unless I knew how to tune myself. A lot of tuners won't work on it.

I've had good experiences with Neptune customer service. It helps a lot to know what to ask. I bet he has people asking questions that make no sense all the time, and some how has to be nice and polite without telling people they are stupid. I bet its hard. Lol.

I have seen JR be rather short with people that ask stupid questions, and I really don't blame him.

I never really had any major issues with Neptune although I wasn't a huge fan of the UI. For a long time I would not support Hondata because of watching everything that went down between them and PGMFIU.org. Now, I would probably use Hondata if I still had a Honda to tinker with and thought a more advanced EMS was justified. They do produce a good product, but so does the team at Moates and HR Tuning.

It kind of sucks the Ectune is pretty much dead as I really preferred the UI to anything else, but I only tuned one car on it, and that was druing the ridiculous license time bomb days. With how long of a time span there was in between sessions with that car, the license expiration got old really fast.

Although far from great, Crome worked very well for me on simple setups. I ran my B17 on it the entire time I owned it. The damn thing ran great. Hell even the A6 Wheezy made decent power running Crome. Both setups were very simple though.
