Engine Managmement Systems for Dyno Tuning

Strange!

"Systems we do not tune:

We consider these systems unsafe to drive on or unstable so we do not offer tuning for them.
NepTune / NepTune RTP
Crome / Crome Pro
Uberdata
Ectune
Emanage / Emanage Ultimate
AEM FIC
A'PEXi SAFC / VAFC / NEO"

I wonder why they consider it unsafe to drive on OR unstable... Aren't these guys pretty big in the tuning world? I can sort of understand Crome, is Hondata really that amazing that everyone supports it but not Neptune/Crome?

Its most likely just a preference.

What exactly is wrong with crome btw?

Same for ectune, uberdata, and neptune. At a fundamental level this shit is all the same, and guess where it came from. Crome.

Nothing I started with Crome Pro. Lost my license and got zero support from John (the author).

I just liked how Neptune had the RTP Demon, and find the system a bit more sleek and functional; could datalog and write to the ECU from the same USB with less hardware which was attractive.

Software wise, I would think they are similar but Neptune has a few better features such as the anti theft feature, and I like how the UI is laid out better with the guages etc.

My guess/.02

The only tuning softwares they offer to tune is the higher end expensive stuff. Which keeps the Jo shmo shade tree mechanic away from their dyno. The more expensive tuning software they offer is typically for race engines built by race shops. Seems they are trying to phase out the little guy and start going for the bigger guys.

Bull crap i say.

More or less they are trying to sell you something.

I have used crome and the aem fic before. They both work and get the job done.
I am now on neptune and it works great.

Most tuner are scared of what they dontnunderstand and will make lies to push there items on you.

Jeff was actually my very first official dealer for NepTune. He used the software for years. There were issues with live update putting people into limp mode on the very first batch of the very first "NepTune RTP" hardware that Moates made. Bad latch chips. Jeff was invested because he had paid for a bunch of units when Moates figured out the issue and Moates had to recall/fix a lot of the first units that went out. Jeff and I had a falling out over all of that and they posted that they were no longer tuning with the system. The hardware was fine after that and Jeff got all of his money back.

A lot has changed since then. Demon 1 and Demon 2 hardware has been released. That's just a decision they made back then and they stuck with it.

Reminds me of the decision of never buying/using or tuning anyones car with Hondata, b/c of the crap they put PGMFI.org thru.

Then maybe it's time to make a sales call and setup a demonstration to prove how stable it has become ;)

hondata basically paid them to shut out other systems and use hondata exclusively. That is the word of the wind.

Dont know if I fully believe it, but it sure sounds like hondata to shoulder tehir way around. Fuckers even got testy when I asked once or twice for flashpro for GE fits

I am always of the opinion that a good tuner can work around any ecu/software
You should be able to but if you don't familiarize yourself with the software it will be hard to use and be quick, try using a mac or Unix/Linux when you have used windows all your life. You can do it but you won't know all the shortcuts and only get around on the basics.

Not being a dick here.

But would you rather have your car tuned by someone who is knowledgeable and good on a variety of platforms, or would you rather get tuned by someone who is insanely awesome at one specific platform and meager at others?

Ill go to a specialist before I go to a generic tuner. Same reason many people get their turbo shit done at a performance shop versus the average run of the mill mechanic shop

As said ^

And some people make great sculptures with chisel and hammer while some use a chainsaw.
If there where to switch they would be lost and there work wouldnt be the same.

But it doesnt mean that one software is crapper then the other. Its just what someone is use to.
And i believe that is what is going on here.
There use to hondata and how everything is laid out and setup.
So when they use another software there confused and dpnt see all the setting.

I tune with the aem fic. And i gotten my car running good and boosting happily. While i have seen people not knowing the setup blow motor in one pull.

All comes down to the right man and the tools he os best at.

If he doesnt want to tune with neptune, just say that..

Caling it unstable when theres thousands of satisfied owners/tunes/tuners using it is just bad business practice.

but its his shop and can do what he pleases.

Crome and other tuning setups required so much "bullshit" to work around it made it a PITA to tune with. If someone knew all that, it was easy...but a huge headache at times.

"I'd rather tune with Hondata than the other BS at times, it is stable" as heard as HE was tuning a car on Hondata while the lawsuit was going on.

The content on that part of the page was written many years ago around the time that we were personally working with those systems. We've updated the page to reflect more accurately.
