Starting a new thread as my last thread was not intended to be a build thread and it turned into one.
I picked up this 1970 Honda N600 last year sometime with the intention of rebuilding the stock motor, and partially restoring it as a cool little weekend car. Naturally, I researched swaps and other motor upgrades, to which there were basically zero. No swap would fit in this tiny engine bay. Rumor had it there was a N600 with a D series in the front, but no proof. The stock motor is a itty bitty 600cc air cooled motorcycle motor which puts out 45 HP and 37 lb-ft. I started thinking to myself, will this be enough? The more and more I thought about it, the more and more I knew I was not going to be satisfied with the stock motor.
My initial thought was modern motorcycle motor, so I quickly picked up a 97 CBR 600 that put out 105hp and 45 lb-ft. Knowing that this swap would be out of my league, I started looking for fabricators and came across this guy Taylor who owns TaylorMade MetalWork - Home. It just so happened to be that he was starting a project on a tube chassis N600! Small effing world. After talking to him about my goals and what I really wanted, I decided against the motorcycle motor and opted for a more radical mid engine D series set up. I just knew that I would not be happy with 45 trq and FWD… RWD with a motor that I am much more knowledgeable on just made sense, not to mention it would be pretty awesome to own. As far as I know, there is only 1 other mid engine D series N600 out there.
So I picked up a JDM D15B swap. The swap came complete. Longblock/trans/ecu/dizzy/new axles/dc header/shift linkage/wiring harness.
Last weekend I pulled the motor out of the N600 so Taylor has a clean slate to work on. I also ripped out the interior this weekend and dropped the car off at Taylors.
attached are some pictures of the motor removed. it is TINY! stripped interior and getting ready to go.
