Hey guys,

Sooooo. the POS motor that came with my 94 dx coupe (b2 block/b7 head) finally bit the bullet on me. I got a deal on a z6 setup (ENTIRE MOTOR, intake dizzy, motor, tranny, all of it). and I got it all for $300 from the junkyard. It IS a running motor when it got to them so Im hoping that I wont find too many headaches in it.

I have a few noob ?'s though
1. do I HAVE to have a p28 ECU? there was no ECU in the car and I couldnt find one there. I have a a p06. will that work?

2.Is there any way I can use a td41u dizzy on the z6 and still get the vtec to engage?

3.I think the dizzy needs some TLC ie coils. can I use the coils from the td41u and put them in the td42?

Im not trying to make it a "race car" or make anything special about it at first. this is going in my DD so Im really in a hurry to put it together so I can give my buddy back his dodge Peon and get back in my Honda. I JUST NEED IT TO WORK RIGHT lol. nothing fancy

also, Ive never swapped a motor before, is there anything special I need to do or consider while changing the motors out? I already dont have AC or PS and dont need either so thats a + Im a really good parts hanger but Im No Mechanic so please feel free to break any suggestions down to their simplest form possible (Barney Style)

Oh yeah, Im Noob as F($* please help me grow......I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING....I just dont understand half of the technical terms and whatnot

ah search for my name in the pass few days.
xile6

I post some stuff to help another guy swap his motor.

but on to what you have.
You will need a z6 dizzy. Its the only one that fits the z6 head.
You can use a b7 dizzy but the timing will be off and it will only mount by 1 bolt without modding.
The coils should be the same for the b7 and z dizzy.
Next the ecu.
YOu will really need a p28 ecu and your have to wire in vtec from the ecu to the motor.
You can use the p06 to get by but you wont have vtec and it wont run like its suppose to.
You can also chip and convert your ecu to vtec. But if you cant solder then that means sending it out and being without the ecu for a week.

what are your plans for obtaining a p28?

keep us updated. Interested on hearing what you think of the difference

Im still on the hunt for the P28, I have been searching all the junk yards and asking everyone locally I know and their friends, but they are a hot item and no one wants to give em up. If anyone has one for sale PM me. like I said Im not looking for "performance" yet so a virgin would be ideal, but Ill take waht I can get for a decent price

OK.......

SO I got the motor swapped into the car in about 6 hours. Ran into a few headaches but all fixable. HAd to use the driver side motor mount from the B7 and put in on to the Z6 motor to make it work. also I dont have the $$ to buy billet mounts, so I did to the next best thing and got the energy suspension silicone bushings from Autozone that go on the 2 lower mounts and the main mount.

the bad:

Idle is ROUGH I have a strong feeling that its one of the 3 sensors on the top of the intake manifold. I will be checking that out soon via autozone unless anyone has a suggestion?

THe guy who had the car before me Welded the exhaust to the CAT so I took out my grinder and cut the bitch off. (we had to pull the motor from underneath the car since I dont have a hoist. also how we put the new one in)
SO RIght now it is straight headers coming off the motor lol. I have a newer Exhaust manifold but since it was welded/cut Im gonna have to cut the flange off my new one and use a piece of pipe and some clamps to secure it. also need to get the O2 off...

I think thats everything.....pics will be up soon.

yea make sure all the plugs are in there right spot.
Some people have mix up the tps and map sensor and end up with rough idle and not being able to drive it.

sucks about the welded exhaust.

and for vtec its normally 2 wires.
vtec oil pressure and then vtec 12volts out.

I dont remember the pin numbers but look it up and see if those wires are in your loop at the ecu.
If not your have to add them.

Then run those to wires into the engine bay and hook them up.

VTEC Just kicked in Yo! I got everything wired up and done....and then the ignition system took a shit and it wouldnt crank. After MANY hours of self diagnosis and 2 NEW distributers I have it running good. Still think my TPS needs replacing but it runs fine. I just get a high then low idle when its in nuetral, but if i rev it the idle evens out. Anyways here are few pics from my swap

Thanks again Xile6! really appreciate all the help!

This is what It came with

This is what I bought for $300+ an 1/8 of chronic

You can see where I had to cut the CAT b/c it was welded on. My buddy has a shot of test pipe and Im gonna cut the cat off and stick the shot of pipe on there.
