Hi there guys!

I just bought a mint stock ef with 28300KM which is a D13B2 engine and its an automatic

I also have another civic in my hands which has a D14A1 engine in manual with power steering.

I have an D15B 3-stage vtec engine in my hands with an S40 gearbox and axles off a civic EK3 1998 model.

I know I need a new tank which has a submersible fuel pump as well as a cluster from a Civic SI vtec or a CRX Vtec.

Now I have the following questions:

1. Speedo cable usage

I know I can exchange the electronic speedo sensor with the cable one, but still would need a digital signal generator for the vtec to engage? (I think it's best to just get a vtec cluster)

2. Cable to hydraulic system

Is this the only thing I need? I know I have to buy a master cylinder off an EG/EK3

Cable to Clutch Conversion Kit

3. Mountings

Can I use the mountings off my 1991 EF or do I need new mountings? I believe the D13B2 uses 4 mountings (1 in front and 2 on the sides as well as the tranny side)
The D15B uses 5? (one on the tranny, 2 on the sides, 2 on the rear)

Since my automatic mounting needs to be replaced, I also have a D13B manual mounting at hand. Can I use that one and use all D13 mountings?

As for the following new mountings, since these are meant for cable type clutch systems, the slave cylinder will not fit on the front mount.

D15 mountings for EF 1991

What mountings would best fit the D15 3-stage vtec on my civic ef?

4. Axles

Are the EK axles taller than an EF, do I need to modify the axles coming out of the gearbox in order to fit them on the EF or can I still use the D13 gearbox axles?

5. Wiring.

What would I need, to get the stuff done. I know the 3-stage vtec is an OBD2A and my civic has no ECU whatsoever. Is there any wiring loom I have to purchase or can I just cut the wiring loom from the engine to the inside and join wires. Any schematics to help me with?

I hope my above requirements are what is needed to fit this engine. I've been browsing and getting as much information at hand but there isn't a complete build thread on a civic EF :/

Thanks and will keep this project updated (might take me a few months to a year to build though)

Hi there mate. Thanks for the reply. I have a p2j-003 ecu that came with the engine, so can I tune or use this one for lean burn or do i need a hondata 300 too?

I also happen to have a d13 manual gearbox. I can change the flywheel, pressure plate and clutch to fit the d15 engine. Will there be a difference in ratios if I keep it cable, what would the benefits of a hydraulic vs cable be?

As for mounts. So the driverside should have a d15 mounting and i can keep the d13 mountings on the other sides?

Thanks for the help

I actually have a D13 cable gearbox, but the 3rd syncromesh is a bit mushy, that is why I have to use the S40 gearbox since I know that's perfectly working. Anyone in here used a conversion kit either from Hydro to Cable or Cable to Hyrdo? Brands and prices?

Thanks guys

S40 hydraulic gearbox to cable

Hey guys, I'm planning to use the cable clutch instead since I don't want to go through a lot of hassle on mounting the clutch master and slave cylinder.

Will the following work: Hydraulic to cable - Actuator
so that I can actually use my cable clutch with a hydraulic gearbox.

I also found out that I need to use knuckles off an 1988 Integra or a civic SI VTEC to use the larger shafts off my D15B 3 stage vtec engine. Is this true or can I still use my normal front knuckles?

Thanks!

Axles will be the same, they sometimes had different spline counts on the outer hubs for Si vs STD but the tranny side is the same. Just reuse the old axles and you should be fine (this is if you are using the cable box).

Hi there, an update to all. I decided to use the D13 manual gearbox to avoid lots of bs for the hydraulic part. I used the D15b pressure plate and flywheel, changed a bearing and fork and serviced the gearbox. Wiring on the engine is ready.

I finally got hands on the fuel pump assembly. Damn 125eur is steep for just an assembly, but I needed it badly so I just bought a 2nd hand one.

Next two-three weeks should finish the project. Then some exterior mods including rims and lowering ;)

Ok, so finally got the engine in and wiring. Didn't do it myself since I am no expert in wiring, but just to update you with the parts list. I also decided to use the D13 gearbox for the swap since it makes the swap much easier.

What I would like to ask are the following:

1. what is the best air flow piping to connect to the throttle body?

2. Engine seems to be knocking (like when you push the gas pedal and revs go up and down) when on 3rd, 4th and 5th gear and idling. Is it the IACV or spark plugs?

3. What can I do to improve fuel economy (apart from driving routines obviously) - my ECU is a P2J-J11

Thanks!

Hey ppl, anyone know of a good trans for the D15B? I'm running on a D13 trans, and I'm pretty sure someday it'll go bad because of the synchros on vtec and stuff. Already changed the 3rd and 4th gears cause the 3rd gear broke and shattered the 4th one -_- What gearbox do you recommend? I have an EK3 gearbox at hand but that's hydraulic. Want something for power as well as economy and reliability. Thanks :)

Super Minty!

Lucky to have access to cars in such great condition.

In FL, we have no state inspection or MOT or whatever. So the cars here are RUN TO THE GROUND usually. They can barely drive under their own power let alone sit in your driveway without falling apart lol. Just jokin, but it's refreshing to see cars in that conditon (Same reason I love my CRV)

How was the ECU sorted out? If you were ale to find a tuner that knows his worth about your engine, you can push it further AFR/Ignition-wise on a Neptune or Hondata. But really not much more than the basic banter: inflated tires, well-maintained etc etc.

What's your MPG now anyway? You should be getting 50mpg (not sure what that is in L, I think 29 or something?) If not, on the verge of 60!

Really tuning is the key. I think Bone said was getting 40+mpg on a high comp D-series with "short gears" IIRC. But not just anyone can tune the low-cam, it is really a whole different beast...

So, tiny update, I managed to create a hydraulic pedal setup, thanks to suja conversion and the help on this thread: http://www.d-series.org/forums/prod...t-reviews/154123-suja-one-sonem-ef-ed-cable-hydro-bracket-56k-die-slowly-2.html

Ihave a major question. I'm trying to use a civic Ek3 gearbox (the one that matches my engine) which is hydraulic. I am confused to which mounting should I use. I drive a RHD car, so obviously it must adhere to RHD.

I found these but don't know if they fit or what exactly do I need.

Also right now I'm getting around 160KM per 20eur, which in my opinion is not that good, though petrol here is at 1.35e per litre. What is the best option to get more MPG apart from the usual maintenence?
