Hey guys, i have a jdm d15b vtec(one vtec solenoid) motor sitting on the engine stand that i am finally putting back together to install into my 98 coupe.
I have been stuck solid for the last two weeks because i cannot figure out why everytime i install the timing belt i am a good half tooth off. I have the exact right honda oem 103 tooth timing belt, oem tensioner and an oem waterpump. All honda.
I have searched and searched till my eyes hurt and every single thread/forum says to set the marks differently. Some say align the 9oclock and 3oclock marks level with the head surface. Some say align them with the pointers on the inner cover thats both marked p08, and also have seen people saying to align the 7oclock with the lower pointer on the inner cover. I have tried all three ways and im ALWAYS off a half a tooth after spinning it 6 times. I dont understand whats wrong.
The only thing i did before putting it together was have the head cleaned, valve seals changed and resurfaced it at my machine shop. I am just completely stuck. Does anyone who has personal experience setting the timing on the jdm d15b vtec motor, please please please chime in. Also why am i always half a tooth off everyway i set it up? I just dont understand!
Please someone give me a hand here. I need to get this thing going. And like i said, i have searched every possible website imaginable and always getting different answers. I need someone who has actually done this. Thank you to anyone who can help me.
