Hello, I'm a noob and need help for my plans... I'm planning on building a honda civic or any type of honda with a D15 or D16 engine. Here is a link on a Ebay Turbo kit, not sure if it needs customising or direct bolt on? If it will fit all honda d15 or d16? http://www.ebay.com/itm/260777549102...ht_2814wt_1195 I know this thread maybe open before, please I want too build a nice honda :).

Budget wise: Doesn't bother me how much I spend, would love to chose the right path & help is required.

Power: 250 - 350bhp, not really interested in big power but if it comes then :)

If you're on a budget, I'd suggest piecing together a kit instead of buying one off eBay. The eBay turbos typically aren't very durable and don't make the most power. Also, the eBay kits almost NEVER fit without some sort of modification.

Go-Autoworks makes a superior quality kit, and the customer service is second to none. The price is a big higher than a junkyard build, though.

If you want 350hp, you'll need to rebuild your bottom end with rods and pistons. You'll also need to replace your bearings, have your cylinders honed at the minimum, and should probably replace your oil/water pumps among other things.

There's TONS of build threads in the showcase forum, check them out. Should give you some inspiration and put you in the right direction.

eBay turbos them self are actually not bad at all, the kits ya.. Cuz nothing wants to line up or something always needs modifications..

Boost- its what's for dinner yo'

No, they are garbage. If you do "luck" out and get one of them that lasts 10K miles, the easiest way to break it is make more than 300whp for any length of time. When you purchase anything with moving parts you have to ask yourself: was the person who made this literate? Because if they weren't you can rest assured the product is a shitwhistle. Pucker up and blow.

For anyone wanting to do something on the cheap, you also want to avoid the china wastegates and BOVs. Two years ago the BOVs were decent budget pieces, but recently they suck. The good china parts (ICs meant for streetcars, charge pipe, FIBER REINFORCED couplers, t-bolt clamps that don't strip) that I would run on my cars can be had through CXRacing.com cheaply. The aluminum charge pipe is thick and welds nicely, good stuff.

1G DSM BOV, used TiAL/Turbonetics Evolution/Turbosmart wastegates (avoid Precision gates, they fail like china), etc are all viable and solid budget choices. Sadly, there are no budget turbos anymore as the DIY market gobbled up all the old ones, the used turbo market is dodgy, etc. I might trust one of the entry level Precision turbos that DO NOT have the billet wheels for a street car, and the prices on them are pretty good for a new turbo. I generally advise people to avoid the billet wheel units as they fall apart a lot, the only exception to this is where you are participating in a class that limits the size of the compressor wheel so going through two turbos a year on your trailered drag car is an acceptable expense in order to have a shot at winning. Garrett and BW are solid choices for anyone with pocket money.

I've seen a lot of stuff from GO Autoworks over the years, never heard a single complaint. You can't go wrong there.

i agree with skeeter. its really a hit or miss. i ran one on my car and it was good. only problem that i ran in to was that the old blow off valve that came with the car didnt clear the hood. i had to mod the wastgate to make it work. other than that it was flawless. ran good for 11psi and a vafc .lol thats my personal experience and i have friends that have had success with them also. Good luck.

if you stay under 10 psi then it should last pretty long. it is the people trying to go higher like 15psi and more that is having blown turbos.
Please don't spread this CRAP on here.........like mentioned since the dawn of time, "psi is IRRELEVANT."

The car I'm planning on purchasing has this engine, D16Y4

Found in:
1998–2000 Civic 1.6 iES (Turkey)
1996–2000 Civic CXi,GL,GLi (New Zealand,Australia)
Displacement*: 1,590 cc
Bore and Stroke*: 75*mm Ă— 90*mm (3.0 in Ă— 3.5 in)
Compression*: 9.4:1
Power*: 120*hp (88.0*kW) at 6,400*rpm
Torque*: 144*nm at 5,000*rpm
Redline*: 6,800*rpm
Rev-limiter: 7,200*rpm
Fuel Control*: OBD-2 MPFI
Head Code*: P2A-2
ECU Code*: P2K
Rod /Stroke Ratio*: 1.52
Rod Length*: 152*mm
Deck Height*: 212

What is the cause of engine oil starvation, I want to keep my car as reliable. Never thought it was this hard in choosing a turbo kit!

If you want to purchase 2 kits then by all means, get an Ebay kit. Once the critical (more expensive) parts take a shit, then youll have to purchase the right parts as replacements.

So save your money, do it right the 1st time.

X2 on the Yolo bullshit.. i guess it made it all the way down under :thud:

Depends do I want forged pistons and rods? What is my budget? And what are my power goals?

Those are the question you need to answer first. Then get the parts to get you there.

I know you said 250-300 and money isn't a problem. So searching these parts should be a lot easier for you then most.

I've had my ebay turbo kit for over 4 years now and let me tell you a little story. I was new to the turbo honda scene and just wanted to turbo my car for as cheap as I could, i bought the ebay turbo kit, tried installing it on my car and had problem after problem. Downpipe flange clocked in wrong position, i had to cut it off and weld it back on, a couple months later the crappy stainless steel manifold cracked, i re-welded it, drove it another month and took it to the drag strip, as i was pulling into the dragstrip the wastegate broke off the manifold. So in the long run i pretty much purchased 2 of everything instead of spending a little more money the first time. Also how much is your time worth? I really wish i would have just purchased quality parts the first time around instead of having to work on my car every month or 2.... Also Get a good tune... thats probably the only thing i didnt skimp on when installing my ebay turbo. I got a Hondata S300 (i know a lot of people hate hondata but thats what i got) and paid for a good tune. Its been running 4 years + now with the same crappy ebay turbo, with upgraded manifold, custom downpipe and tial wastegate, and hks bov... morale of the story buy quality parts the first time, do it right, and enjoy driving your car instead of working on it.... Hope this helps.

you have alot to learn.. when your talking boost and camshafts, you need to learn duration and lift.
Dont just buy this part and that part w/o doing some homework. Some parts might hurt performance even tho you think it wont. Especially cams.

So read this:
G2IC Turbo Guide - A Guide to Turbocharging your Honda / Acura Integra

and get to know what your getting into. Some of that nfo is old and not used anymore such as FMU, Missing link, and a few other inferior parts. but its a good read and can get you a starting point.
