Hello all, This is Something I have started researching for the Last few days, And I keep coming Up with mixed answers, And also answers that do not pertain my Chassis / Wiring set up.

What i have is, D16 Block, D17 Guts.

I have 2 Heads, a d16z6 which has newer internals works great etc, But I want to use The y8 head i just picked up. Everything seems To be in working order on the y8 head, I Will be taking it to have the springs checked, Valves checked etc,

I want to use the y8 currently for the slight bump in compression and a tighter quench while i am running stock internals. I will build the z6 head and swap it over, once i get my wiseco/rod set up later next year.

My Dilemma is, From what i understand i cannot use a z6 Distributor for the y8, But i can Swap z6 Guts into a dx/ex/lx obd1 dizzy And it will bolt up to the y8.

Heres where sticker is for me, I have a chasebays Engine Harness(which was made for a z6 head), Are the obd1 plugs/wiring different Between a z6/y8 swap, or are they the same in order to run the y8 Head with z6 dizzy guts on a different base.

Thanks for all the help in advance, I do just about everything my self but I am needing advice here as I'd hate to have this y8 head cleaned up real nice and be unable to use it!

And this will match my wiring with the harness i have?, You didn't really explain much just said here and go. And thats the kinda nonsense that i read when trying to research it my self,

Not looking for the easiest, but more so the Correct way of going about it.

Hope to hear back from ya.

Do what twitch is saying, buy a B7 dizzy for the Y8 head, the plug will match the harness and the dizzy will bolt directly up to the head.

When you put the Z6 head on, find a Z6 dizzy and use it. It'll have a different casting so the bolt pattern will be different than the B7 dizzy but it will have the same plug as the B7 dizzy.

Dont worry about what head it is you running. If your car is obd1 use a obd1 non vtec dizzy. It plugs in and also bolts up to all dseries heads but the z6, if your using a z6 head you need a z6 dizzy because its the only dizzy that bolts up.
You dont jeed to switch any guts at all. Just obd1 non vtec d15b7 dizzy. Bolt it on y8 head and plug into your car. I have an obd0 non vtec dizzy on my y8 head right now. Since im obd0

D15B7 distributor has the same connector as the D16Z6 and has the same sensors. The cap, rotor, ICM and coil are the same too. The only difference is the base, but the base is the same as the D16Y. So if you are going to use a Y8 head with a OBD1 ecu and harness then use a D15B7 distributor.

You can also buy a jumper harness for the Y series distributor to be used with a OBD1 harness. A OBD2b(99-00) Y series distributor doesn't have a tach output wire so be aware of that if you choose to use one
