Virtual Dyno & TunerView results...

I had the bright idea today to see if I could get my TunerView datalog files working with Virtual Dyno.

IT WORKS!

All I had to do was open the CSV file with MS Excel, delete the first 2 rows (a TunerView title and your protocol's name), then delete the data rows I didn't want to use (shift the data up). Virtual Dyno did the rest by simply opening it up w/in the program. I used log files I wasn't expecting to use for Virtual Dyno, so tailored results should be even better.

Below is Virtual Dyno's estimate vs a real dyno graph. Once I got the weights right (added 50lb to Del Sol curb weight plus my body) and tire heights, the overall curve was dead-on. The big dip between 4000-4500 rpm is where it's extremely lean, and after 4500 it's still too lean for optimal power (0.1v on a narrowband). My guess is the AFR"s were worse on the dyno (different fuel maps used) which accounts for the Virtual Dyno gains from 3-4k after I leaned it out.

Below is a graph for a mild H23A-VTEC (ebay i/h/e, stock GSR muffler, short-ram, small GSR t-body). Again I had the idea after making the log, so I didn't take it to redline. I usually shift no higher than 7200 but here I only took it to 6800. Also the log shows -0.072 PSI up to 3800 rpm, then it gradually drops to -0.49 PSI beyond 6700 rpm due to the TB's restriction.

I had pretty good results using it with crome. Was within around ~3-5 whp of my acutal dyno results later. Just have to be very exact with your weights and tires.

Virtual Dyno is a great tool. Hardest part for me is finding a clean/safe/repeatable stretch of road to log on, and then finding a place to pull over and make adjustments.

Even if the numbers are a little off, you can definitely still use it to tune as long as you're repeating. The absolute number doesn't really matter for tuning, you're just trying to maximize the area under the curve.
