And so it begins...

Title says most of it. I'm fairly new to turning wrenches, and this is my first major project. Goal is 300whp, in what is presently a 1996 Del Sol s.

Got the engine out today, but started later than I wanted, so instead of taking of the tranny and putting it on the stand, I just set it down for the night.

Now that I'm actual making progress, I figured I'd post here instead of continuing the thread in the turbo section

Let me know your thoughts! I'll continue to post updates here as things develop.

I was going to go with SCAT or Eagle rods, but using the compression calculator from Zeal, it appears that it would drop me to 7.5, not 8.5 like the ads for vitara kits suggest.

I'll be looking for a way to save some money by bundling as many of the internals as I can together (i.e. ebay kits), but I might have to leave the rods out, as all I can find are the standard length ones in kits.

If you run too big p2w Clearence you get piston slap/ blow by.
But if its too small it will cause scoring/ can seize up.

I would go w/ y8, they flow better.
And i would rebuild it myself ( don't trust ebay and cheaper)

Picked up a trunk full of goodies from the machine shop today!

Going to go with the y7 head and a 272 regrind for now. Don't think I need new valves or springs, as I'm not planning to spin it over the stock redline.

Will be moving in a month or so, so the goal is to get the built engine back in the car and running before adding the various pieces of the turbo system.

Finally got some time to work.

I've moved since the last update (which meant getting the suspension completely back together), and now have the garage mostly to myself.

Ended up going with p2p0 rods, and 75.5mm vitara's with .0025 ptw

I've been waffling on porting my oil pump myself (would have to buy a grinder), or dropping that money on having Endyn do it. I went with that; its supposed to be shipping this week.

I really need to get back on it; cam needs to go out for a regrind (gonan go with delta 272), and I need to decide if I'm going to replace the springs or do any other headwork. probably won't.

have you got a civic, or a del sol?

Looks good 300whp is pretty doable with these set-up I have a pretty similar build. What turbo are you running on this? Pump?
Haven't picked the turbo yet, oil pump is stock pump modified by Endyn.

Trying to save some cash. Can't recall if compression ratio is different on the y8, but my goal is only 300-350hp at the crank.

I know that they flow better, but I think I can get what I'm looking for out of the y7 with a cam regrind.

Still waiting for my oil pump to be shipped.

In the mean time, I need to determine if I should replace seals in the head, or even the valves themselves. I'm thinking the springs are ok.

I've had the engine deck resurfaced, but I haven't had the same done to the head.

Lots of investigation to do while I wait for parts. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated
