Hello friends,

i want to do a all motor build in a D16z5 engine.

Here my ideas:

- port/polished head / intake manifold / tb
- cams and cam gears from Bisimoto
- take weight of my flywheel or buy a Exedy one
- dual springs and retainers from Supertech
- some work on crankshaft
- rods from Eagle

Will i need new and better headstuds?

And finally, because i dont have a top budget: i need to change pistons and valves?
Or i just can change pistons?
Or if change pistons i need to change valves too?

I was read some things about NPR pistons.
For the valves i would buy Supertech.

Ok friends, im listening your opinions :bigok:

humm, i have read that D16a9/Z5 rods are the weakness point of the engine. I think its because of more rpms. The stock rods dont like much more rpms than stock ones.

But, you recommend change cams and cams gears and use ARP rod bolts in stock rods.

One more question: Bisimoto or Supertech dual springs and retainers?

Use whatever ACLs you decide on (King is another good option), and size them. If you need to tighten or loosen up the clearances a little, buy a few OEM bearings to adjust your clearances. This is effective and much less expensive.

The rods, as long as they are in good shape, are more then strong enough for any NA build, as long as your oiling system is in good order. This is why I suggest just using ARP rod bolts and having the rods resized for the higher torque specs that are used with the ARPs. This is just about everything you can do for the rods without buying new ones.

"High compression" valves don't really influence the compression ratio by much at all. The difference is very minor, almost insignificant.

I would recommend changing the pistons and overboring, but, a simple cleanup and rebuild of the stock engine, with the cams, will DEFINITELY yield a very good increase in power. It is less expensive, too, and, almost never a bad option.

thanks for the info Man.

My friend told me somenthing about Supertech valves stock size but high compression.

What do you think about that if i dont change pistons? Or even i change them.

LSD flywheels? i dont know nothing about that brand. Let me see.

Rods i have read that are the weakness of this engine.

Don't port the head. Clean up the casting marks and terrible core shift. Don't take off much material. The ports are too large for a majority of D-builds.

Good choice for cams.

For a daily driver, I like 12lb. steel units from LSD.

Supertech is good stuff.

Leave the crank alone unless you know exactly WTF you are doing.

Rods for what? Stock rods are lighter. Replace the stock rod bolts with ARPs and have them re-sized and maybe shot-peened. Get some PG6 pistons for cheap. They are much better than P29s. If you insist on sticking with P29s, get some of the NPR 30mm CH units.

Yes. Get some ARP head studs from Go-autoworks.

You don't need larger valves. They are sized well and larger without chamber work can increase shrouding, especially in the DOHC head.
