would a crower Stage 1 camshaft with edelbrock cam gear fit in a d16y8?
I had a friend who wants to sell me one but not sure if itll work/

I'm doing a z6 head/y7 bottom so I've just done a ton of research on z6 vs. y8 (or y7), but I'm running the proper cam for the head. I'm pretty sure it can be done, but would involve tweaking the cam timing (as I understand it they changed "zero" when they came out with the y8 ), so it's a good thing it comes with an adj cam gear.

I've never done it personally so I'd hate to steer you wrong man, I'd do plenty of searching and find something concrete before moving on it. A google search on "z6 cam in y8 head" yielded plenty of stuff to read through.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck.

Yeah from what I remember you need to start off with it adjusted 4 degrees one way or the other to get it to what the y8 sees as 'normal', but there may be more to it than that. That's why I was saying don't just take my word for it.

well i also have a (was told it would work) b18c1 throttle body for y8. it would be a simple short ram intake, exhaust system, crower stage 1 cam and adj cam with throttle body would that require tune?

I haven't changed from the stock throttle body, and from what I've been reading you have to really be pulling some air for a bigger one to be an advantage. I don't know if that would complement a stage 1 well or not.

I wouldn't think a stage 1 cam would be a big enough difference to throw off the stock ECU, but I'm sure a tune wouldn't hurt anything. What obd are you running?

I'd recommend spending some time in the Naturally Aspirated forum and looking around at what those guys are using. If I remember there's a really good cam write-up stickied in there, as well as a general FAQ one. And honestly you'll probably find people with more experience who could better advise you on this. I'm still at the stage where I'm wondering about the same sort of things because I haven't tried them first hand yet.

Sounds like you're already doing this, but I'd keep searching and reading. My first mod was a closer-geared tranny, a stage 1 clutch, and a slightly lighter flywheel and that made more difference than anything intake or exhaust-wise. What are you running now?

Well i did find out it was possible, the cam gear just needs to be retard 4.5. i also talked to an auto mechanic that works on d series engines who is actually going to install it for me. i did buy all of it for 200 bucks so even if i don't utilize it ill sell it.
I didn't ask about throttle body, but if it requires tune i don't think i have a tune-able ecu. right now i have the stock p2p ecu, which is obd-2.

Yeah, a lot of people will advise you to convert to obd1 for ease of tuning if you're planning to go more radical in the future.

On the throttle body, from everything I've read the stock one is optimal for n/a setups.

You could probably find a good write-up on how to do all this yourself if you're mechanically inclined. Are you comfortable wrenching on your own car?

there is a sticky on this! That explains it all!!!!Stage one no need for tune.Stg2 will run so pig rich you will want atleast a basemap.B18tb will fit.
z6 cam z6 gear.y8 cam y8 gear.Time it with a light.Stg one is basicly stock replacement.

damn i was just about to tell him about the sticky but you beat me to it.
and yes the cam will work fine i ran the oposite setup for years i used an oem y8 cam in my z6 cause the y8 cam is a slight bit bigger then the z6 cam, i used y8 cam and y8 gear in my z6 set the cam gear up level with the head just like a y8 and my dizzy was right in the middle of its travel at 16* ran perfect
