Hi guys,
am new to the scene but am trying to pick up as fast as i can.
i am planning to build a SOHC d-series engine but am clueless as to what gives it the best potential on the street(i dont track. sadly.)
i'm looking at a daily drive with power as and when i need.

could someone advise me on what cams, etc etc
say that price is not an issue. what would your perfect SOHC engine be?
also is there a D-series higher than 1.6L?

this site is full of great information and great individuals

what the hell is going on here, as of late D-series is becoming like honda-tech with all the dumb asses. It's truly becoming hard to go to a website and read anything with out someone's dumb ass childish remarks. Just tell them to use the search button or help like ej8_thor has done.

that was more then needed but he had it coming to ask that question. when you have to activate your account it even tells you not to be afraid to use the search button.

A6 with mildly ported head, B-series throttle body, .010 off the head, skunk2 intake manifold, Exospeed stage 3 cam, high comp pistons, eagle rods, 8Lb. race flywheel, stage 3 clutch, header, 2.25in exhaust, chipped and tuned ecu.......ooohhhh wait, thats my build. :)

This will bring you all kinds of oipnions...The N/a guys like me will say N/a is the best way, the boosted guys will say boost is the best way. It all boils down to your budget and what you will be doing the most with your car. Whether it be auto-x, drag...strip, road courses, ect. If your gonna take it to auto-x, road courses and the occasional jaunt down a straight stretch I say N/a is the best and most reliable way to go. You dont have to worry about a turbo torque steering you all over the place or overboosting while your at part throttle(that will blow up your motor).

Theres tons of great builds whether you decide to go N/a or boost. Take a look around and welcome to the D.

damn... well maybe YOU cant read, because obviously he posted this in the NATURALLY ASPIRATED section, and not the forced induction section.. so those stickys mean shit to him...

learn to use the read button its at the top of the forum, and it tells you where your at... i/e forced induction, naturally aspirated and so on... posting a picture of f/i stickys is pointless lol

ohhh yes and search buton is soooooo overrated when you have a shitload of stickys and threats ;-)

call me an asshole if you want
but
my first post was even in the noob section

That is a total copout man. Take responsibility for yourself, that noob did not ask you for anything and certainly did not deserve your remarks. Next time if you don't have anything constructive to offer, keep it to yourself. Now that I said that, I am going to go and see what I can help him find. I will teach him how to use the search.

Brad do you want to go all motor or Turbo? There is some great stuff on here for either one in here. I took my Civic DX 1.5B7 and did all sorts of bolt ons to it. It has been nothing but fun running my stock motor with a few mods and suspension upgrades and tire size increase.

I am planning a build for my current D15 with a D16 crank and rods and pistons. I intend to make it a turbo machine with some mild cams and so on.

I am currently getting another motor to swap into it. A JDM d16 VTEC with an EX transmission (5spd) and the I/H/E stuff that most people use.

Maybe if you stick with a D16y8 and an Si or an EX tranny and a stage 2 clutch, vtec and a computer to control it, find a cam online through a google search or ebay search and you should find items to as people about in here. You can use the search engine to look up different items you want more specific info on and then build your knowledge on that.
I would like to suggest that you write down what you hear and read that sounds right or wrong to you and verify that stuff and cross check.

Port and Polish the head and a ZX IM should be good for starters. You wont need to do much of the fuel adjustments that come with turbo and greater displacement until later.

The best advice anyone ever gave me about Civics was to save all of my money to get the engine and drivetrain I wanted and skip the mickey mouse mods. You can always build another d15 with higher power later. I did that but I still did the whole mod to my factory engine with 250K miles on it. Now I am getting the engine I really want in it.
