Starting a new thread as my last thread was not intended to be a build thread and it turned into one.

I picked up this 1970 Honda N600 last year sometime with the intention of rebuilding the stock motor, and partially restoring it as a cool little weekend car. Naturally, I researched swaps and other motor upgrades, to which there were basically zero. No swap would fit in this tiny engine bay. Rumor had it there was a N600 with a D series in the front, but no proof. The stock motor is a itty bitty 600cc air cooled motorcycle motor which puts out 45 HP and 37 lb-ft. I started thinking to myself, will this be enough? The more and more I thought about it, the more and more I knew I was not going to be satisfied with the stock motor.

My initial thought was modern motorcycle motor, so I quickly picked up a 97 CBR 600 that put out 105hp and 45 lb-ft. Knowing that this swap would be out of my league, I started looking for fabricators and came across this guy Taylor who owns TaylorMade MetalWork - Home. It just so happened to be that he was starting a project on a tube chassis N600! Small effing world. After talking to him about my goals and what I really wanted, I decided against the motorcycle motor and opted for a more radical mid engine D series set up. I just knew that I would not be happy with 45 trq and FWD… RWD with a motor that I am much more knowledgeable on just made sense, not to mention it would be pretty awesome to own. As far as I know, there is only 1 other mid engine D series N600 out there.

So I picked up a JDM D15B swap. The swap came complete. Longblock/trans/ecu/dizzy/new axles/dc header/shift linkage/wiring harness.

Last weekend I pulled the motor out of the N600 so Taylor has a clean slate to work on. I also ripped out the interior this weekend and dropped the car off at Taylors.

attached are some pictures of the motor removed. it is TINY! stripped interior and getting ready to go.

More updates to come. I just wanted to get this thread started! :1eye:

Here are some pictures from taylors place and what he is working on. Sold the rims off the N600 to some lucky guy in texas!

Also a picture of the donor car. Took the front subframe and suspension off yesterday. This will be chopped up and used for the rear suspension.

Taking the rear suspension off today. Will try to get some updated pics of the car chopped up this week/weekend, or as updates are available.

Thanks man! Hope to have some good updates soon.

WOW! This is gonna be awesome

Thanks. I hope so.

I like the wheels, good find. Can't wait to see this all finished.

Thanks. It took a while. And even then I got lucky.

Soooo, what are the goals for the car? Auto-X? HPDE?

Im excited to see this roll out!

When are you expecting to have it road worthy?
Plans are 100% street car. Not looking to race this thing. Maybe 1/4 mile someday. But that will be it.

Road worthy? Just depends how fast my fabricator can get the big stuff done.

Want to get the major things done asap. Then probably take my time with body and other details.

See this is one thing I HATE about Alabama, there is absolutely ZERO vintage JDM! And I mean zero...

In the off chance you do find something it's beat worse that a redheaded stepchild that grew up to be some ******** punching bag.

Kudos on the build again!!!

Damn dude, this AND a new baby on the way? This thing is small enough to be his crib. HAHAHAHA

Congrats on both "Works in progress" bro.

Little bit of work done tonight. Had some help from my step daughter! She jacked it up for me Hahaha.

Rear suspension is out.

Del Sol jealous. Haven't touched her in months. Need to make some time to show her some attention.

Mad stance.

Thanks mrtodd! Love this little guy.

I burned myself yesterday from a metal shaving when I was grinding. Apparently I got branded. Haha

also another picture of the car as is for reference when im done.

Too flare or not to flare....hmmm. I'd love to have a wider wheelbase for better handling, but will it take away from the classic look?

Just remember having lower offset will space the wheels out farther, but this also puts more stress on the wheel and hubs and it won't handle all that great. Look at all Honda's and you will see fairly high positive offset (the S2K is over +50 IIRC). This brings everything close to the suspension and in turn provides better handling.

When you get lower offset wheels you just space them out more, and you are increasing wheel base but also put more stress on everything. If you keep the offset fairly high but use slightly wider wheels/tires you will have good results.

Also it seems like every N600 has the wheels sticking out past the fender, so even on stock offsets having some small flares or rolling the fenders helps the overall look.

thanks for the advice. my Enkei's are +38 offset so we should be good. i dont really want to flare, although i really dont want to go narrower to fit in the fender. so im at a cross roads.

i got some time to think about it, at least.

Love to see stuff like this....wish I had the time.
thanks. me too! if i was doing it all myself it would take years.

Got some work done today on the donor car. Entire cabin harness is out. Clutch cable, throttle cable, brake master cylinder, VSS cable, gauges cluster, radiator, fuel lines, fuse boxes is all out! Hoping to have some updates on the n600 this week sometime.

Also found this sneak a toke while I was disassembling the car. Even though i dont smoke, its a pretty smart idea! Basically a pen cap with a eraser housing shoved in there.
