hey i just got back from the junkyard with a new throttle body(because the tps on the other one was going bad), i figured it would work it has the top mounted map n stuff, just has the fitv unlike my other one.

when i start my car it idles good for a few seconds but then slowly keeps climbing eventualy getting up to 2300 rpm. my coolant level is good i have a chipped p28 with stock z6 basemap and canceled out o2, and the ecu worked great with the other throttle body.

is the coolant line on the intake manifold /thats right next to the big one/
is that supposed to go to this valve? right now i have both the coolant line and the fitv blocked off.

i havnt tried leaving the car on till it gets to normal opperating temp yet, because im not sure if it will go down or not. just not comfortable with this high idle.

oh and one more thing car drives fine its just at idle.
all your help is greatly appreciated!

UPDATE: i plugged that coolant line in to the fitv and started it up, let it get to operating temperature, the idle dropped like it was supposed to but now it just surges from 1200 to 1800rpm continuously and dosnt stop.

i tried the idle adjust screw but dosnt change anything. i did the fingertest for both the iacv and fitv but dosnt change at all either

anyone have an idea where i should go from here? just need to get this thing running right already so i can get to work tommoro

Get yourself some starting fluid and spray around your intake manifold where it meets the head, where the throttle body meets the IM, and all you vacuum lines. If it revvs up when you spray a certain area, that's probably where your leak is.

Could also be that the FITV on this new throttle body is bad/dirty, causing the valve not to move properply.

If you have the fitv blocked off without actually removing it and using a blockoff plate. You will have a vacuum leak.

i dont have the fitv blocked anymore i have a coolant line from the intake manifold running to it. this fluctuating idle has just occuring after putting this throttle body on (with new tb gasket too).ill check for any vacuum leaks also. do i clean this valve out just like a iacv? any of you do this before and notice a difference? thinking of giving that a shot as well

pull the iacv off clean it out, i had a surge problem for awhile in my ek i took iacv cleaned it up with some carb cleaner, the sensor end bolts are pesky to get out. i took that off and cleaned a lil then worked the shaft on iacv after couple times she free'd up, sometimes the o-ring gasket has tears into or just crapped out, buy new one from auto store or honda....ebay has em as well. if that doesnt fix the idle surge. then the sensor is bad all together, be careful not to bust up the sensor side theres a magnet on inside of the sensor on the shaft. reving to 2300 n staying or continuing climbing is vac leak. constant up down surge is 99 times out of 100 iacv. any questions on cleaning it etc, feel free to ask.:chinese:

Good advice here so far, EXCEPT the use of Starting fluid to check for vac leaks. Any brake/carb cleaner should work fine. IMO, Starting fluid is way too volatile, and will cause some major issues if it back fires, or you get to much in a cylinder. You'll hear the idle change one way or another when you hit a leak.

What engine/intake/tb combo? if it has an FITV, and your other one didn't, then there could be a couple of other things that could cause it. if the car doesn't originally have an FITV, then the coolant lines should be plugged into the IACV. Do you have anything plugged into the FITV on the new (to you) TB?
