Okay, mine are leaking and the oil is seeping down the block and making a mess of my beautiful, oil stained, driveway.

I pulled the covers, but have a question or two.

Are advanced auto/autozone gaskets sufficient for a leak free environment, or do I need to buy factory oem?

Do you use an RTV silicone in addition to the rubber gasket?

If so, which side do you put it on? Valve cover or head?

While on the topic of RTV, I was wondering what is the absolute BESTEST brand to buy? Hondabond? Other?

Parts store gaskets are fine. Yes you have to put two little dabs of silicone in the corners of the front and rear cam caps and on the head, not on the VC. Hondabond is best, Permatex grey or black silicone will work fine too.

I pulled my valve cover off a million times to screw with my motor, used the same gasket for 3 years, leak free.

you know, I'm going to try installing it dry :jailbait:

it is always such a pain to clean off all the old silicone everytime...

I'll try dry and see how it goes

And, if that doesnt work, then I'll go with Sentry's suggestion...since it isnt that difficult to pull the darn thing.

thx guys

okay, well it sounds like I need to do that then

and it sounds like the hondabond goes on the head side of the gasket, not the valve cover side....

okay, after I paint it, will do the above

appreciate it

I have never used anything other than the gasket on my vc and I pull them often and never had one leak still using factory seal just clean and replace

Ive always installed dry. Never any sort of hondabond or rtv or sealant.

Treat the VC bolts/nuts like an oil filter. hand snug til the rubber kisses both sides, then go 1/8 or 1/4 turn. Run it through a ehat cycle and let it cool down, then run again to see if it leaks. tighten slightly more as needed

never a leaky VC!
