Grinding/Scraping Noise when Driving/Turning/ Low RPMs WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS CAR!!

I just got this car running after a year of downtime, in that time I did a motor build up (d16a6 forged) and a turbo install, brakes, suspesion etc
Well I started driving the car and it was mint for a 2 hour haul I took, then I noticed a small SOFT rubbing noise when driving, the noise would change witht he speed, it didnt sound like metal on metal contact so I didnt care figured the tires were rubbing but I knew they werent

Well today I went out and after a couple rippers I went down to low speeds and hear your this LOUD grinding, its only for the first few thousand rpm or so when its the worst.

You can hear it quite well when turning as well, cant tel if its form the turn or just because something wants to make noise.

Can someone help me narrow it down please?

Thanks
Kevin

I just went out for an early morning drive, the grinding is at its loudest at low speeds and light cornering, it really has no pattern when it makes the noise, anytime in any gear 1-3

Its grinds for no more than 1 second at a time, stops, grind, sometimes once, sometimes once sometime 4 times until you get up to speed, even at higher speeds I can hear a soft rubbing

I should mention that it only seems to do it with the car in gear, doesnt matter if its accelerating or decelerating

I also have a feeling in my shifter, a clucnking feeling when you push the shifter forward further than you need to and hold it there, you can feel a pulse in the shifter every second or two, just moves the shifter a little bit.

I dont know if something needs replaced or if something just wasnt installed right.... it seems to be ocming fomr the passenger side but its so hard to tell

Maybe a wheel bearing? Don't really know but I would check it.

i should probably also mention that when I did the engine swap, one of my boots on the axles were torn so I threw in another Crx axle

it wasnt on the side that I think is making the noise, it was the long drivers side one

I dunno I need some help guys, Im broke and I have car troubles

I'm a little confuzzled  ... does it seem based on engine rpm or vehicle speed?

I would check it again, and try to pinpoint it... drive it slow, hard, does it do it more on turns? if so left or right? yeah bearing could be one of the causes, so cuold a lot of other things

It's most likely not the axle... the cv joint would be making a grinding sound but more of a hard, rapid clicking

nothin to do with rpm's, it only seems to happen at lower speeds though, first few gears

I cant pinpoint it, my exhaust is to loud and its just a griding noise

Its not constant and it happens at any time, turning, straight slowing down, not specific to anything

but its not a constant noise, its just here and there but happens frequently

just me, but I would check everything you can w/o tearing anything apart first... since you've done alot of mods to it, jack the bad boy up and start inspecting anything and everything that you've changed.

brakes, any suspension mods (where I would start) you've done, etc. Visual inspections can save your life, just be thorough

odd problem you there :(

I totally agree.

I dont see anything out of the ordinary though, nothing really changed it was just upgraded

I guess I can peak tonight. I did mention that my wheels make noise whell I turn them when its jacked up right?

I just dont get what would cause a random griding noise

sound like you have a caliper not releasing or brake set up to tight or you have a wheel bearing going out

take the rim and caliper off then try turning the spindle see if it still makes the noise
or spray wd 40 on the rotor if you thinkits the break for the first mile it should be noise free if its the brakes, after that it will wear off and be noisy again

beyond that you need someone else there

it doesnt spin freely when I spin the tires, but it doesnt make a hard hard grind like when its rolling

It makes a fairly light rotor rubbing noise I would describe it as
with the wheels in the air, you might not get the grinding because there's no load on the bearing.

also, make sure the pad clips are installed correctly.

Well I just jacked up the car today

Fucking good bit of grease on the drivers side on the lca/caliper etc around that area,

its coming fomr the outermost part of the boot closest to the tire where the little clamp is. I dont see any tears though

Now could this be causing my problem? No grease = grind? There isnt that much grease but theres a good handful

Now if this is the cause I can either:
1- snip the clamp and fill it back up with grease
2- grab a spare axle with a fucked boot and get it fixed and try that
3- this isnt my problem look elsewhere

I see no other problems other than my oil leak

Hope someone can help

Yes the axles were removed for the engine swap

I dont believe the axles are faulty, and I deifnetely wouldnt be getting a remanufactured set

Im gonna go make sure the 32mm nut is tight as tight can be, i might have forgotten to give that a huge tightdown

Stores are closed today, couldnt pick up any axle grease to fill the boots

Soooooooooo

i think I foudn the problem

I was under the car, just spinning the wheels looking for problems

I turned the passenger side wheel to full lock 9forget which way)

started spinning the tire and i kinda hurd a small metal on metal grind noise so I look over as im spinning the wheel

AND THE DRIVERS WHEEL WASNT SPINNING!!!

I musta spun the passenger wheel for 15 seconds in pure awe, I then turned the passenger wheel to the other side full lock and went over to the drivers side, took a look at the axle and what to ya know, I can see a good 1/4" or maybe a bit more of silver between the tranny and the boot, I try and jiggle the axle and it doesnt really move, the wheels then both spun in unicin and I couldnt get it on any spots to spin byitself again

-all bolts are tight
-axle nut is as tight as possible no movement there

Now I dont know what to do. Are axles different between the years? This drivers side axle is an 89-91 as it came out of my last 89 si. This new car that its in is an 88

I have no fucking idea whats wrong

hmmm I guess I shouldnt worry aobut swapping boots over to fix the spare axle I have, just fill and reclamp the one on the car

You think its just popped out or something?

Like the wheel wasnt spinning when the other one was, turned it full lock the other way and it musta grabbed or something

You think if I just take the dirvers side apart, slam that axle back in there and then reinstall it will be ok?

Can someone enlighten me on the little clip on the end of the axle that goes inside of the trans, it just goes around like 90% like a c-clip right? Gotta make sure thats there I guess

Or should I go ahead and get this spare axle I haves boot fixed and just swap them?

manual tranny in neutral, only one wheel will spin when both are off the ground.
if the axle was not fully set into the diff, might have damaged the splines. You are correct about the retaining clip on the axle, C-clip.
I don't think the axles are different but I do know that the tranny input shafts are different on the 88. Might not be a concern though.

check that inner cv; check the dust shield on the axle near the hub; check the rotor dust shield.
