how far below the deck should a block guard be installed? also where should it be tack welded in? I dont need to hear your opinions on how they over heat.. I just want to know the proper depth to install it.. and yes i know all machine work has to be done after the install

The hottest part of the sleeve is the top(where the combustion occur)....let some space for the coolant to cool down the upper part of the sleeve.....I'd say something like 1/2 to 1 full inch below the deck.....not to far or you''ll have problem to weld(lack of space)....
I'd weld only the outside of the block guard, not the inside(sleeve side)
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.....

What is the brand of your block guard?

the correct way is to sell your block guard and save your $$$! :) i kid...but
the problems they can create for what little they do are not worth it imo

the aluminum has a different expansion rate than the sleeves they are supposedly strengthening when brought to temp. two metals expanding at different times doesnt sound like a good idea in your engine...especially so close to where combustion is taking place

just food for thought! good luck either way. they can be done correctly and that info is here but i would re-think the idea
