ok, big question. Which to swap in place of my usdm d15. they both make the same stock power. obvious difference is the cams, so which would be better to put in my 91 dx hatch? ive seen zc swaps go for like 600-700, while the jdm d15 is significantly cheaper (400-500) will i pay for what i get? should i spend the extra just for dohc, or less for vtec? HELP

well all depends on what you like. not to say that the d15 isnt a great engine but there are benifits going with the ZC. Since the ZC is a dohc engine it will breath better.

go with the d15b there bad ass! i back them up 100% and for the price you cant bet them. there are about 80lbs lighter than the zc motor. the best part about them is after you stomp some fool in the ground and he finally catches up to you at the next light he'll say "what you got in that thing" you can say its only a 1.5 hehehe. plus i read a articale about the three stage v-tec capable of 49 miles a gallon. p.s. there are two different jdm d15b's 1 is 1 stage v-tec the other is 3 stage.

why should he get the 89-91 crx tranny?
one 88 use different clutches and 2. the 89-91 si tranny will perform better then his dx. 3 his car is setup for a cable clutch and will be a bitch to run a 92-00 tranny.

91 dx HATCH
if you go D15B my prices around the Southern Cali area go anywhere from $300-$400
The DOHC ZC is over-priced by many known companies but I swear you could pick one up for around $400
The slight price difference between the engines doesn't count for the OBD-1 conversion ahead of you
sure you can stay OBD-0 and rig some type of RPM switch but you're gonna be far from the engines full potential
The weight difference is NOT 80 lbs, more like 40lbs at the most
I like the added "umph" the DOHC ZC has over the D15B

FOR your car, I suggest the DOHC ZC for it's simplicity
For EG's and OBD-1 people, I say D15B

it is 40lbs between the 1.6's sohc and dohc zc
not the 1.5's they are lighter when i was getting shipping quotes 2 months ago they said 72lb difference. that is from a frieght company who was actually weighing the motors so.................

and the 3 stage vtec's have 2 vtec solinoids, the others only have 1

ya, for ease of installation, go with the zc. just need to only change 2 wires on the dizzy after you convert to mpfi and its a direct bolt in procedure. and when you say 600-700 bucks, i hope you meant WITH tranny, because that price without is way too high. the only other think you will need is the zc intermediate shaft, but thats if you use the zc tranny.

According to my HELMS manual the difference between a 1.6L and a 1.5L wet weight is 11.2 lbs (218.9 vs. 207.7)

The VTEC head weighs more that the NON vtec head so I'm still saying roughly 40 lbs diff between the JDM D15B and the DOHC ZC

I've done both swaps and I doubt there's that much diff
D16 vs. B16 now that's a different story
