So the to do list for this one:
Drop fuel tank and hunt down gas leak
Trial and error the source of the steering wheel shake
small body work
cluster swap since tach and trip meter are dead
hunt down front end clunk
and basically try to restore it to its former glory
silvertop pulls pretty well as the revs get higher compared to a b18b, altho i don't wanna rev it up since i dont have a tach, enjoy!

#15 · (Edited)
I had a ricer tach that came with it, stupid thing but it works for now till we get the electricals sorted out, haven't revv'd it up yet ;)

alas, I always wanted a 20v. I was rocking a 16v bluetop though.
I love it, get it running like it should and post some ripper vids! itb's ftw
Will do soon as some minor things get sorted out

So judging by the thread title, you're gonna paint it rootbeer brown?
lol lol idk why i name it that :???: Probably wasn't thinking at that time

SO dope! :))
yes indeed!

nice.

i love those.
love em' also Edd!

Can I be your best friend? lol

Cant wait to see where you take this. I have a buddy club lip but it didn't fit right. Little to big so I am waiting on a modified version of the "half bumper". That a member in MR2OC and I came up with. We call it the LG version.

Looks like this.

Retro-Spec is doing there version of the LG lip as well.

AW11 lip - Toyota MR2 Message Board

Glad I'm not the only MR2 owner one here :D

This is what my car looks like right now

Image

So the to do list for this one:

Drop fuel tank and hunt down gas leak : GL hope you find where its leaking from
Trial and error the source of the steering wheel shake: Check Inner/Outer tie rods and or the knuckle that connects the steering wheel shaft the the pinion. Most likely a small amount of play with translates to quiet a bit on the steering wheel.

Image

cluster swap since tach and trip meter are dead: Can almost guarantee it is not the tack but the speedo cable that is broken

hunt down front end clunk : Check you swaybar end links. They pretty noisy when they are worn out.
and basically try to restore it to its former glory: Do it!!!!!

Hope you don't give up on it. Being old cars, they will require a lot of time/effort and money.

Suspension would be the first thing I would do, makes a world of a difference. Even if you use stock shocks and springs.

Glad I'm not the only MR2 owner on here :D
Lots of updates in next post, also sure why not!

4ag parts in general are expensive........I wish I wouldn't have given up on mine.
 hope that it doesn't be the end of me lol

next post broski,
edit: have to wait a while since my brothers are bandwidth hogs with their maplestory, grumble, grumble

more pictures!!!

and i want your wheels...
lol lol don't worry! Also sorry but i wanna keep them just for normal driving since i still have a sport set sitting

Work begins on dropping the fuel tank, a job I found from various forums to be a daunting task
Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Me thinks this hand pump has probably gone ker-put since its really hard to push the plunger, Harbor Freight pumps I guess are only good for 1 or 2 Fuel uses
Image

2 of the 3 brackets that you need to unbolt before the tank is clear along with the 2 holding straps
Image

3th bracket that needed to be unbolted
Image

Far away pic of dropping the tank. The front end of the tank you can pull down after undoing all the brackets and straps with very little problem. The rear on the other hand is the biggest pita to get free

#18 ·
Now the hard part was hunting down all 7 hoses which prevented the tank from freedom
Image

Fuel filter banjo hose
Image

IDK which one this is but it had to be unbolted
Image

The filler hose proved to be a worthy opponent as prying it off with a crowbar was useless since the space is cramped in there. The trick to getting this one off was to first release the 3 other hoses nearby, unbolt the emissions tube which had another 3 from the firewall. Then came the tricky part which involved manhandling the whole tank; mind you I'm 5"3 and "manhandling wasn't one of my pros
Image

eventually after about 15 minutes of manhandling it, the hose gave up and the tank was finally free
Image

Close-up of the emissions tube
Image

Found the crack and did a patch job along with duck tape masking to protect it during installation
Image

Heres a before shot of the interior
Image

And after

Cluster shot. I found the post 87 clusters to be nicer which is why I swapped it over
Image

Image

Also found out that the high-speed shaking problem was from the tires so off the old set went and on went the sport set I had left over from my previous civic, plz don't kill me again for putting LS meshies on an mr2 :pinch:
Weird I had a pic of the oilpan the 20v had which was all mashed up :???:

thx bro, its my over rev! inspired build

I love the steering wheel, the one in my corolla was similar. Also, I had 88-89 crx si wheels on mine.
I think the wheels look good, throw some toyota center caps on there. :p
The very second I saw it on a dead mr2 in the boneyard, I said to myself gotta get that. Theres just something pronounced about the 3 spoke steering wheels. On my meshies I could do that to fool people but for the time being, I'll just sand off the acura logo so I don't get pointed at for it

Also since I now have an 8000+rev motor am i part of the 8000 club?

#24 ·
I've taken it all the way up to ~9k but idk if my tach is spot on or off :???:

#27 ·
Brought mr.2 out for practice last night an I gotta say, where was I for the past 3 years with civics :???: I'll admit my Si was blast with my cx being a bust, but this is just different. Its on basically stock suspension and brakes and the balance is just spot on for my tastes right now. On another note, I found out I was only on 3 brakes as I have her up on stands and found rear pass side doesn't have the parking brake work which I think adjusts how the brake works; lucky I'm still here. No in cab vids since I don't have a cam rig for it yet. Some pics of last night and I also brought back some vids of the drifty guys at it

So updates: I managed to find the ash tray under the passenger seat which made me realize that I haven't dug though it as much as I would normally

So it started out as this fugly little thing
Image

After some prep sanding - looking a bit better
Image

So finished product for the most part
Image

Back in its rightful home, I also replaced my head unit with a Dual that is CD readerless but has sm card slot and usb port in its stead. I would say it sort of compliments the basic looks of the dash
Image

On another side note, my fuel tank decided to start leaking again after doing the patch job. Will have to drop it again and find out if the area is brushing up against the cavity wall or if it needs a solid one

#30 ·
So spent the weekend going to all the pick your parts in my area an either, didn't find a mr.2, found a mr.2 but the tank was rusted, or found a mr.2 the tank was clean but had a hole :???: go figure. So patch-job part 2 again. Also managed to snag a parking brake cable since one of mine is seized and also managed to get the two plates that go behind the shifter seeing many don't even have this
Image

Cable chilling out till tomorrow since I'm out to go to Newport Intl. film fest tonite
Image

An the two logo plates, I'll use the faded one for that "used" look
