I bought a 90 so hatch with a sohc zc in it. It smokes and I want to build the zc a little so figured while I was doing the clutch I could just put the A6 from my 89 rt4wd in the hatch while I build the zc. From what I have read the zc cam is a little bigger and that's pretty much the only difference between the zc and the A6. That being said can I use the zc cam in the A6 and if so will I need a adjustable cam gear or Anything?

There are more than one generation of sohc no-tec zc engines

There are ones that look like the d16a6, and ones that look like a d16y7.

Several variations of each as well.

Look at your valve cover. Which american motor does it look like?

This will indicate if you can even swap the cams out to begin with.

Could also look at the head casting above one of the flanges (intake or exhaust, cant remember)
