Hey everyone. One day a couple months ago I got it into my head that I wanted to turbo my Del sol. It's a red 1993 Del sol Si D16Z6 5-speed.

It's gone through a few ordeals in its time with me. I got it in the spring of '08. I knew nothing about Honda's other than they got good mileage and people liked to rice them out. Fortunately I managed to avoid ricing my car out.

I had been working on my 1983 El Camino since I was 13 and because of all it's modification I got about.... 12 MPG? It's a beast but that's neither here nor there.

I got the Del sol and drove it to college and used it for daily driving, errands, going to the GF's and whatever. In Feb 2010 The car was stolen off the street over night. The car was completely stock and was actually a little rough. The rear window doesn't work, all the shocks were blown, the hood's dented, the glove box was broken, the shifter knob was hacked off in a cheap attempt for a short shifter. So basically the previous owner abused the car.

Anyway, it was stolen in Feb, recovered in San Antonio in March 2010. The key cylinder and plastic column cover were broken and the car had a few hundred more miles on it, but other than that (and the radio being taken) it was exactly the same.

So we got it back to Austin, I was starting it with a screw driver which was kind of unnecessary, but I was doing it. I figured, who would want to steel a car with no radio that has obviously been stolen recently. WELL.... as it turns out, someone did. At this time I was no longer parking it on the street I came home one day (2 months to the day after the first theft) and it was gone from under my apartment.

Turns out someone tried to take it after I had gone to class in the morning. The broke a little 1/4 window to get in, and were somehow too stupid to start it...... (I was starting it with a screw driver) So they rolled it out into my parking lot and abandoned it. Someone called the cops and the cops took it and impounded it. The tow truck driver broke my rear taillight and dented the area around the licence plate. Of course they never fessed up to it so the trunk area is still dented but I have since replaced the taillight.

TL;DR
Bought car, got stolen twice, recovered twice, started modding it and then I found DSO and got serious.

Here's a pic of the engine basically as I found it. The only thing's I had done as of this picture are put a K&N stock replacement airfilter in, taken off the header, high temp painted and heat wrapped it.

Here's after I got it back the second time and started working on it.

So on to some more serious thing!

Before I decided to go turbo, my ISB started crapping out so After a couple months of waiting I received my new rebuilt Si tranny w/ mFactory LSD and carbon 123 synchros from Aquafina. (shortly before he went MIA)

Got it installed, took me a couple days as it was my first time and I was being very slow and cautious, and its hard to stab a tranny by yourself while lifting it alone.

I got the SS clutch line and new master and slave clutch cylinder from RC autoworks. They were out of stock for quite some time, but I think their supplier in Japan got wiped out in the tsunami. But when it got here it fit it worked and I love it

So to start off with I bought basically an ebay kit from a guy behind a sketchy Acura dealership. It came with the classic shitty ramifold, the t3/t4 turbo, ebay pipes, ebay waste gate, ebay intercooler, little dump tune, hks STYLE BOV, and some other miscellaneous things. Most of the things in the pictures here.
BUT! I will be using the piping and intercooler in the 1st pic which came from 2drz6 (thnx btw)
I also bought a love fab manifold from another member on DSO (can't remember, I'll look it up)

All the stuff in the 2nd pic was traded to Doug (slowcivicef) for some extended cunningham rods to pump the compression on some vitaras.

So at this point I was kind of stalled out. I had an egay turbo, a manifold who's studs were too big for an ebay turbo, and a bunch of shit sitting around that I wasn't quite comfortable working with yet.
Turbo, mani, and WG are for sale btw, just PM me and we can talk. Looks almost new, it was used, but not for long and not by me. Has minimal shaft play but everyone has a different tolerance for how much they wanna play with their shaft :greddy:

Manifold resting on studs, moar pics of both upon request /plug

got some 450 DSM injectors from TURBOB20?????????? sorry, I have the memory of a fruit fly

I got a resistor box from hotrodj (I think)

ANYWAY! After being kind of stuck for about a month just not knowing what to do next, my friend who is in my opinion a civic god, wrecked his 6th gen gsr swap hatch. He had a junked d-series in his garage from his ex after it spun all the bearings because of a mysterious oil starvation.

Long story short, he needed to get some cash to get one of the cars up and running again. So I picked up a few things from him trying to be a good friend :devil2: plus, he was offering to sell me his greddy kit for $260.... How could I not help out!

Actually welded into an almost new pan with no dents/dings

BTW, anyone know whtat this little fitting is for? It's on the botton of the s pipe.

I got a little buzzed before I started taking these ^ and v pics :bigok:

So the Mitsubishi TD04H greddy 15G turbo had a looot of shaft play and had actually contacted the housing a little bit. I decided that I would rebuild the little fucker after seeing how easy it was on a link to another forum on here.
http://www.d-series.org/forums/forced-induction/87714-how-rebuild-greddy-td04-15g-turbo.html

So I ordered the little rebuild kit and got to taking shit apart. As I was doing this I figured that it would be good to get the shaft and wheel balanced seeing as how it had contacted the housing so for sure it was F'd.

Story on that is, I sent it off to California to usedturbos.net and they told me the shaft was too far gone to be used. It had deep grooves in the bearing areas, which I knew before I sent it but was hoping it would be ok. (It wasn't) So my new balanced shaft/extruder wheel and compressor wheel are in the mail and should get here today!

While all this was going on, I managed to score a manual P28 for a guy on CL, I tested it out it worked, hard to pass up for $60. I sent it over to Xenocron in NY and got it back yesterday w/neptune and RD-1. It's a good week to be me :bigok:

OH! I almost forgot. I high temp painted the major turbo components. They were looking a little (lot) rusty. I hope it holds up. I did the baking process in the over so hopefully it'll last, and if not. Watevs

Question: Should I remove paint from mating surfaces?

Here you can see in the compressor housing where the wheel contacted.

Thick Greddy oil feed line

Mfactory magnetic drain plug, I've got one in the tranny too, and OMG after the first break in tranny oil change. It had a ball of shavings on it, soooooo glad i got them.

Fresh from the mail. New shaft and cleaned compressor wheel, all balanced and ready to go back in my fresh turbo, but my heat shield won't come in till Friday,so that will be THE LAST piece to come in before I start slapping these parts on the car.

new/cleaned. open the box and nearly jizzed my pants :bigok:

old and yes I'm on DSO 24/7 or sometimes it feels like it. Just a happy coincidence that I was the one in the pic.

this is why I was told I shouldn't re use the old shaft

Here's my work area. There a space large enough for a del sol where I was standing to take the pic. There's probably enough material in this area to make a functioning car.

Here's some miata rims and Kumho V710's I picked up off a guy for $100.

Tires might last 1 more autox.... maybe 2. But they were essentially free add ons, cuz I bought the rims and he was lazy and thought the tires were dead. I've run 2 autox's on them so far.

Thanks for the comments guys. Up to now 75% of the car has been Ebay. I'm cheap, forgive me. No name intake, no name TB, no name radiator, OBX hoses, no name coilovers, no name cat back. BUT as soon as i get those reserved spots filled, there will be good shit.

Little off topic, but I've also been gathering parts to build another block that'll support more boost.

Picked this, a complete head, and crank (needs a polish) up from thagreenteam

with those and the cunningham rods I for from slowcivicEF I think I've got a spare dissembled block that'll pretty much max out my turbo.
