I just recently bought a 97 civic coupe with a d16y7 non vtec. not even a week later I through a rod through the block. I now have a d16 vtec bottom end and im going to use my non vtec top end. Is this a good idea? Im still new to the Honda scene so any help would be great. and what other mods will be a good idea just to get a little more out of it. and to clear up everything.i have a d16y5 vtec bottom end and a d16y7 non vtec top end. will this work together?

1) Please stop calling it a "scene".
2) D16Y8 Bottom end is interchangable with a D16Y7, so as long as the bearings aren't trashed it should work.
3) There are TONS of NA/Turbo Single cam builds on here, search and research.

the bottom end was newly rebuilt and has maybe 30 miles on it. and my non vtec head is still in good shape.

But did the motor ever spin a bearing?

Putting new bearings in it constitutes as "rebuilt" but if the crank/rod/main journals are all scared up new bearings aren't gonna help!
