Im really surprised to hear that.
I know several engine builders and sports car racers that use nothing bud mobile 1 synthetic, which is why I have always used it.
On the other hand, Ive heard lots of royal purple horror stories.
So yah, idk, haha

Really? please share thease royal purple horror stories.I got an increase of 2mpg city and about 5mph hwy when switching from valvoline maxlife to RP.

to OP if you dont wanna spend $8+ a quart i'd just use whichever blend of valvoline you choose, cant remember how much their synthetic goes for but i know the maxlife which is a blend and it does good for the price is @ 16-18 buck for the 5quart jug @ here a wallmart.
but one thing dont cheap out on an oil filter, go and get yourself a purolator gold filter.

Ive heard from a few people that RP is good at making power, but doesnt offer the protection of most oils. Which is completely contrary to what T-Mack said, so who knows.
Admittedly, I dont know anybody personally that has had an issue with RP, but I seem to recall hearing bad stories about it on a few occasions.

Im gonna do some searching for some oil comparisons on the interweb.

Heres one:

Oils Against Oils - Major Oil Brands go head-to-head on the dyno.

WEAR METAL TEST
Indicates size and number of wear particle for each oil. The higher the rating the greater number and size of wear particles.

#1 Amsoil Series 5-10 micron
#2 Hi-Tec HTO 15-20 micron
#3 BP Visco 5000 15-20 micron
#4 Shell Helix Ultra 15-25 micron
#5 Shell Helix Plus 10-20 micron
#6 Mobil 1 5W-50 20-25 micron
#7 Mobil 1 0W-40 15-20 micron
#8 Castrol R 20-30 micron
#9 Torco 15-20 micron
#10 Royal Purple 15-20 micron

Dyno tests are interesting as well.

Good Morning Tilt!

Royal Purple is an excellent choice! It came in second behind the top Japanese oil company's synthetic brand which made almost three additional Hp on the dyno.

The issue people were having with Royal Purple back when it first came out was , they were buying the racing oil thinking it would be cool or would give better protection. Well, racing oil does not offer better protection for street driven cars. It contains absolutely no detergents and other agents that are used for DD cars. Racing oil is meant to be changed after every race.

Also, Im sure T would agree to this...stay away from Fram, their filters do not hold or retain contaminates well and they break up very quickly. K&N oil filters are one of best available, the other being the S2000 OEM filter which Janne over at OCO swears by.

Whatever man.
Unbiased tes results don't lie. It was'nt like it was Royal Purple that ran the test. Mobil 1 is garbage compared to RP.

Im not arguing with you.
If you looked at the test I posted it shows that RP is good stuff, but that test also shows that Mobile 1 is good stuff too.
