I have a Manual 1997 HX Civic and it’s been motor swapped to a d16y7 (previous owner shi) so it still has the old harness and it’s using the vtec ecu so I have a vtec code all the time which the motor doesn’t have vtec and I’m tryna figure out what ecu I can use to turn it off so I can go and get emissions. I tried using another p2e ecu it cranks starts but then dies immediately

You need to swap to a 96-98 dx/lx civic engine harness. The HX harness uses a wideband primary oxygen sensor that is at a different pin than normal.

TLDR, buy a 96-98 nonvtec harness matching the trans (whether it is automatic or manual.)

EDIT 96-98 ecu will only work with a non-HX setup. The HX simply has too many changes.
