What are the chances...

....that an internally stock D16A6 would survive 2 accidental misshifts from third to second instead of third to fourth? The max RPM that my S-AFC records is 9985...that is what it had in memory.

The first situation is the tranny. Something has to be bent (maybe some shift linkage inside) because you now almost have to shift as if you were going for reverse in order to get into fourth. If you pull straight back...you'll get nothing or SURPRISE...second. The engine/tranny have 186k miles so I guess its simply time for a rebuild/LSD/final drive.

Next is the motor. It is still alive...when the misshifts occured i threw the clutch in, slid into fourth and applied throttle. The motor still had power so i continued with the track sessions. I'd say that I drove about another 70-80 miles on the track with no issues and then 130 miles home from the track. Is this one of those scenarios where I'm lucky that nothing happened and I shouldn't worry about it or will there be some side effects of this showing up in the near future?

What do you guys think?

Sounds like you got a way with it. If you haven't changed the oil yet, do it & cut open the filter & check for engine bits and/or drain the oil threw a strainer. You can pick some up some good ones at an auto paint dealer.

Good luck
replace the shifter, bad orings (stock I assume)

adjust the valves....and keep driving.

Without jumping time it's almost impossible to tag the valves on a overrev like that. My current motor has seen 9500+ on missed 2-3 shifts, maybe why is still runs so good. Those missed shifts occured in 1998....or was it 1997?

o rings? I have the ES inserts in the linkage and the bushing that surrounds the ball on the shifter (pivot point) is new OEM. The first misshift it didn't want to go into fourth, then dropped into second. The next time it happened it shifted as smoothly into second as it should have gone into fourth...didn't even hesitate. From then on, I started shifting back and away from me to avoid second.

The car had a fresh oil change and filter...will change anyways.
Any info on the o-rings transzex is referring to???

I just did a rough calculation...based on the fact that I was shifting at 7500 on the front straight (first misshift) the 3-2 shift netted about 11,300RPM:shock: and on the back shorter straight where I was short shifting at @ 6800 before a sweeper the 3-2 misshift netted about 10,200RPM .
