anyone experienced this?

my car is a 93 dx that has been swapped to a d16y7. was told by the seller that it had a b swap in at one point but im not sure.
the issue im having is the shifter is too far forward now, as in 1st, 3rd, 5th are way closer to the dash than they should be and same goes for the rest. neutral feels like its where my first gear should be and my 2nd, 4th, and reverse feels about where neutral should be.
everything still works right and i can get used to it but curious if this has happened to anyone else or if someone knows whats wrong?

Wrong shift linkage?
thats what i was thinking, just checking if there was just something maybe not installed right.
either way its working and i have bigger things to worry about with this car at the moment.
could this cause me problems later? i can deal with it if it will be safe too run but unless someone has dealt with this same issue and had problems i guess only time will tell.

on the positive side of things i can shift to 3rd and ash my cigarette at the same time lol so maybe this is a "smokers upgrade"?

This can happen if you swap in a B series and dont shorten the shifter linkage.

Have you crawled under the car to see if the linkage looks adjustable? Maybe someone just went overboard re-extending the linkage when going from a B back to a D?

It could also happen if the engine is tilted foreward or some noob put the shifter in backwards.

That is what I am thinking, how loose/sloppy is the shifter?
shifter is pretty loose but manageable, sure it could use some tlc lol so hard to say if its the linkage but honestly for something like this it would almost have to be but i dont have much experience with messing with that stuff anyways to know.

im going to have to look into adjusting the linkage and will check that for sure, this is my first full "project" car so i imagine im going to learn alot of things i previously didnt have the need to know.

the engine looks to be sitting in the right position and not tilted forward that i could see but that second part about some noob putting the shifter in backwards wouldnt surprise me at all sadly.

just adding to the list of things im now gonna have to make right or close to it i guess. word of advise, dont ever buy a swapped car in a walmart parking lot at midnight in the rain from some shady dude who ask if you know where to get some weed lol. 1300 hopefully not completely wasted cus its just too hard to find a good civic cheap around here.
guess thats what you get when your state doesnt do inspections or anything, any old P.O.S that still runs is worth a bit more than if i was in a state where it would have to pass inspections. very common to see people driving their strip cars around town.

Pull the shifter boot down as far as you can and see if the shift lever bends back or foreward, then crawl under the car and see if part of the shifter linkage is threaded, or if it has been welded.

If the shifter lever is bent back towards the driver like it should be, and the engine is mounted correctly, and the linkahe has been cut and welded, but is not adjustable, your best bet is just to buy some virgin linkage.

have some updates for this so thought i would just post it up.
apparently the PO was just a dip shit. i was thining the problem was surely the linkage and today i checked and he did put the damn thing on backwards lol, o well maybe the guy was just really short and had to run his seat all the way forward for all i know. might have been more comfortable this way lol. anyways glad thats all thats wrong. with the shifter atleast.

also again thanks for the help and advise, this is one of the best car forums i have been on! most of the time on sites like these you cant ask about anything with out some know it all giving a smart ass answer that doesnt even help.
of course i could have found out what was wrong with this myself, but working 7 days a week and having to drive 15 miles to a place with no internet access to work on the car when i get a chance i have to rely on the help of you nice people and ask questions to narrow down problems faster. so really than you.

also is there a classifieds on here? im looking for some d15 parts and if i cant find them around locally then i might have to order online. would much rather give my money to someone on this site if i can.

damn, thanks tho, hopefully i make it there someday lol

wish they would change it so new people could at least buy stuff, i understand as far as being a seller.
i have a lot more trust buying form the people on here than the fackers on craigslist or ebay.
and if someone with a good rep on here for helping people is getting rid of something i could use/need. i would rather them get the money.

generally the facts are there.....but then sarcasm joins the party and all bets are off.

Now if the sarcasm ends and 2-3 people are debating the issue.....

A few here (no comment, from my lawyer) have offered parts to newbs in need on a few rare occasions once the problem is figured out, mostly to get them back on the road.

It IS frowned upon, greatly.

You also bring up a valid point seller vs. buyer. :8:

haha i havnt had any issues with anyone on here yet. like i said, im talking about other forums, i ask questions about things but i have been reading a lot of post on here trying to learn all i can about these cars and havnt encountered much if any undeserved asshole responses. but even the best of forums have people join and ask some very stupid questions that could get annoying.

just know that if i ask anything i have 1. done some reading into it and usually not just being lazy lol. i am new to hondas, and dont know everything about cars in general at this point. just always learn something new as i need it.
and 2. i really do appreciate all help i can get. be it just advise, or hard core facts, and if a few people with more knowledge on the subject than me want to debate over whats right and wrong. im all for it, when people start debating over things you can be sure of one thing in the end, shit will get figured out lol

well if it frowned upon, and could get someone in trouble i might have too just stick it out and hopefully be able to grab what i need locally. im just so tired of buying things from shady people online at this point lol.

and yes, i wonder why they do it that way?
i have been on several forums, such as the samba just and example of a great and well populated car forum. and also a few others, and never ran into not being able to at least buy from the classifieds. i just see no harm from it but maybe just havnt thought about everything.

as far as selling goes the more restricted the better in some cases.
i would not buy anything from someone with out some sort of rep as being a good seller or member of the site.
too many thieves selling stolen crap, and scammers to let just anyone get the privilege
