Do you have an oil psi gauge? If so what's your oil psi?

i think when u free rev it.. it wont hit vtec due to speed lack of speed...

and mayb oil pressure isnt enough.

but i believe vtec will only operate under certain circumstances

i.e

operating temperature
oil pressure
speed sensor (showing speed that car is moving)

thats what i think is the reason anyways.. correct me if im wrong.

im with this guy. i think the prerequisites for vtec have been posted on here before (and might take all of 9 seconds on google) but this is about right. so if vtec is not always kicking in, check all the items listed for intermittent problems.

yea were talking factory here....
lol.. yea i know... if your having problems with vtec.. change your oil pressure switch with a new one or a known working one (its the green plug on the vtec solinoid)

make sure you have enough oil.. usually if mines under teh bottom dot on the dipstic it doesnt work

I think throttle position is also a prerequisite.
yea it is... if the tps doesnt work then no vtec.. but ive had my vtec engage at like 10% throttle before... i guess just as long as it reads more the .5 volts then your fine
