I was just wondering if its possible to make the stock d16 out of the 1997 dx hatch into a Vtec engine. Or would it be better just to stick another D series Vtec into it.Thanks.

yeah bro i just did a head swap on mine i had a 97 civic with a d16y7 non vtec engine and i swapped a d16y8 head. One thing you need to keep in mind when your swapping heads is, your going to need the harness and ecu for the vtec engine

It's called a mini-me and you can't directly use a Hondata ECU or any other OBD1 ECU with out first doing a OBD2a-OBD1 conversion. The Y8 P2P ECU will work as noted if your using the Y8 head/ manifold/injectors, etc.

You should do the D16Z6 head for the better quench zones, and the D16Y8 IM for the larger plenum. Don't forget the ECU.
