Please don't think I'm a newb while reading this. I just happen to notice a few things and I would like some input before I confuse myself even more. Don't tell me to search because I have, and try to keep in mind that just because its on the internet, doesn't make it correct. With that said...

I'm about to send my block off to my machine shop. I told them I wanted the block decked 0.030 to give me 9.1:1 compression. I'm not sure on how much has been milled off my built head, but I'm just going with a resurface.

Now, FJT "says" his 139mm rods put the Vitaras just a hair below the deck (.002 below). To get that to match on the Zeal Compression Calc. I had to make my deck height 212.34mm instead of the "normal" 212mm. My block bore will be able to hold my 75.5mm pistons with 0.004 p2w clearances. With all that info zeal thinks my compression will be 8.46:1 (without anything decking), which is WAY too low for my liking.

Now if the shop DOES deck my block 0.030 with the 212.34mm block, that will only give me 8.97:1 compression, BUT HERE'S THE THING!!!

Look at the Zeal Calc. it's showing -0.028 meaning it would make the Vitaras ABOVE the deck 0.028 Correct????

Now my question is.....who has, or can it be done, to run the pistons higher then the block like that? The only reason the compression is still so low due to the stupid -15.00 dome on this things. I'm not REALLY worried about p2v contact, but I would really like to get as close to stock compression as I can, I'm just not sure I want to run the pistons higher then the block like that. Keep in mind I have the 272-2 cam.

Also, if you just leave the deck 212mm it puts the Vitaras at -0.012, which would mean they would still be 0.012 higher then the deck, so could somebody please shed some light on this place.

Well if i got by that thread....with the z6 head I have I SHOULD be ok, but should I still try to deck the block 0.030??? That would put it to that close 0.018-0.028

The hg is have is 0.037 I'm sure.

I think you have made a misstake the Fj conrod is 5.458'' x 25,4mm = 138,6332mm so the piston is .003 / 0,076mm under the deck with a 212mm block.

and i guess you are talking about a D16z6 head so you have a pocket with 2mm if you take 1mm /.039 of the head you will get the 9,28:1 you desire.

Well since Im running the z6 head, I'll do that, but I thought the rods were 139mm, I guess that would explain alot then.

I want to take off some of the block so it will be "square" So would 0.038 from the head and 0.001 on the block be a good idea?
That would still have the pistons .001 below deck.

But on the zeal calc. with the rods 138.65 like you said, it sits .002 below deck like FJT said it would, not .003 like your saying, but I would still need to take 1mm (0.39) to get the 9.1:1 compression I want.

well looks like I'm gonna go ahead and drop the head off since I can just keep the valves in it. VT is out and cam is out so it shouldnt be a problem. think i should take it with the vc on it?

everything on the head is already clean, thats why i hate having to get the head milled and i wanted to deck the block

only thing thats in the head is valves and springs, I wouldnt think shavings would get in since the valves are sealed. just tape off the ports.

shavings will get everywhere, they will need to take the plugs out of the head to blow it clean, and most likely put it in the cleaner to get the shavings out of the coolant ports.
