Im planing on doing a budget build on my y8 with vitara pisotns and tunertoy rods. I know that the vitars will lower my comperssion to like 7.8:1, i was wondering what size Cometic gasket to use and how much i would need to have the head milled to bump me up to bout 8.5:1 ?

Thanks for any help.

On a Y8 motor the Compression WONT be that low... A Y8 motor with stock un milled head and the Y8 2 layer head gasket should yield between 8.7 and 8.9:1CR

On a Y7 and Z6 engines its 8.5:1 and in the A6 motors its 7.8 - 8.0:1 CR

I'm trying to figure out what my c/r will be with the Vitara pistons & Speedomotive rods. Factory rod length for the y8 is 137 mm or 5.48 in. The Speedomotive rods for the d16's are 134.85 mm or 5.394 in. Thats .086" shorter than factory rods! Does anyone know the length for Y8 tt & eagle rods? Or what the approx. c/r will be?

Sorry for the hi-jack.

Wow your compression is going to be very low with those rods cause theyre shorter.. The piston wont get all the way up in the sleeve so the clearance between piston and head increases, thus decreasing your CR ratio..

134mm long rods is what some d15 engines use.. I think you beter get other rods(137mm)

Yeah FJT, I agree. I thought about decking the block but I am just gonna get some rods that are the proper length.

BTW, the pistons came in today. They look great! I really appreciate it. May order a set .040 over soon.

Where are you ordering these from? I'm seriously considering ordering a set...

has anyone every gotten good measurements on the vitara -dome displacement?
I have been using -14.2 (wild guesstimate) just to get into the right ballpark so I can play around with the other numbers.

With FJTs info. above I seem to come up with a value closer to 12. While the 14.2 does yeild 8.5 on the z6...weird.

What would be the proper way to measure cc displacement. fill the piston dome with clay? I do have a set I got from FJT a while back...just waiting on time, and the car runs so damn good stock w/ the turbo.

Didn't TunerToys do a little write up on this a while back? If i remember correctly, they CC'd some Vitara pistons. Someone check there site or contact Craig for the tech article they posted online somewhere.
