So I decided to give my newly acquired 97 d-series some love this afternoon.

The main event of the evening was the changing of the valve cover seal and plug seals.I started taking the valve cover bolts out and found that the middle one and the far left bottom one were the only "tight" ones.

The other two, closest to the firewall (screw into head ?) came out relatively easy and the driver front one that screws into the valve train assembly( cam bearing mount ?) was just sitting in there due to to the threaded hole being broken in half.

When I put the cover back on, the back two bolts would get kind of tight and then pop loose again. I'm assuming this is not normal and these may need to be re-threaded with new studs.

As for the broken threaded hole, is there a way to change this out without making a weekend project out of it?

Thanks again guys.

Basically, its the bottom right bolt hole that's broken.

(Not my pic, but the clearest I could find of this, thanks to whoever took it)

^ yeah, thread with allthread from a hardware store and use a set of B16A acorn nuts instead of the stupid bolts!
