Hey guys, this weekend when I was going to adjust the valves of my d16y8, i noticed that the thread for the head cover was completely broken.

Does anyone knows if it is possible to fix this though welding or do I need a new piece?

Cheers!

you can either
1) buy a new cam cap, take the whole thing to a machine shop and have it align honed
2) jb weld / metal filler / tig weld something there to make new threads.

I run a small fab shop as a side hustle and do build up jobs like this all the time, so it's doable. The challenge here is that doing the build-up will probably warp the cam cap, meaning you'll have to get it align honed anyway. If you were planning to do the TIG thing, you might as well go with option one and bypass the welding step. JB weld or some other filler/build-up stuff might hold, but I've never had much luck with those methods.
