hey guys i have a d16y8 with i/h/e pulleys, VAFC, aem cam gear advanced to 3 degrees. I was wondering if anybody could tune the VAFC or what settings i should put in, i havent really messed with tuning and all that so if anybody has the same setup and could help that would be great. also i have a obd2 to obd1 harness with a virgin p28 should i put that in as well. any feedback would be great. i just dont want to start changing things i dont know and mess up the motor.

hmm, well i HATE!!! VAFC/SAFC for anything other than monitoring things.... they suck... a chipped ECU, Burner, Laptop, and WB02 will do u just fine and dandy...

on the contrary, they server their purpose. Say you have an obd2 car, and want to slightly adjust some "parameters" like the OP does. But you're not going to pass emissions with an obd1 conversion, and you don't want to go through the hassle of swapping back and forth.

At the minimum you'll want a wideband o2 to monitor the changes you're making. Dyno time is where you'll get the most gains from your AFC.

I can agree that AFC sucks for tuning but for some people it might the only thing they have for now. If we could get some links or advice it would be great.

honestly, id get hondata or neptune and get it tuned if u can afford it, if not then i agree get a wideband O2 sensor and id take it to a shop have them throw it on the dyno and tune it for u.

hahahaa.... wow and i thought the knowledgeable people left... ROFLcoppter... on the contrary... i have tuned 48-52 cars, dont remember the exact number and have written my own tuning program... so u r trying to tell me that a AFC is adiquate (SP*)... use the second best tuning method get the second best results.... i have tuned cars on crome and gained from the AFC tune, u have no ignition changs on a AFC and they suck... period... dont get mad at me, we r in a free country and i can say what i want and what i know...

I think we get the point that vafc is not the best way to go about tuning. The question still remains, whats the best way to tune using what we have right now which is vafc. I think vafc + afpr + wide band + dyno session should be fine for now. Any how, I will be converting to chipped p28 OBD1 soon anyway.

the only way to tune is with tools. You need to monitor your afr and check for detonation at a minimum, street or dyno. depending on which route you choose your tools will vary.

There really isn't a standard setting that will fit every "modification" to your engine. No two engines are the same.
