Hello my civic stupidly sat for about 8 years without ever starting or moving. To my luck its still running great apon initial startup with fresh oil. Drove it a little runs good. Rad fluid was low and degraded.. fluid obviously needed more than the usual top up and rad is looking rough and rusted . Have a better identical rad to replace with better hoses so figured i would remove rad and instal different one with fresh fluid and would be a more effective way of flushing system. Removed upper rad hose the metal connection that the clamp goes on has a chunk of metal missing on it about the size of a small cotter pin. Sorry for the novel but will the chink of metal get into the engine ?

remove thermostat, flush cooling system and see if it comes out....odds are its not in there, but hey cant hurt.......unless you feel like inspecting the water pump, and while youre there doing a timing belt and tensioner install.....
