I wouldent suggest under drive pullys but lightend are always good
i heard its not good to put crank pulleys or light wieght alternator and powr steering pulleys on high mile motors....why?
Damn this is a hard one.I've heard do it and No way don't do it.I read the whole article but still unsure if by doing it I will gain a couple of horses or not.I know if this is the case then of coarse Don't do it but...
Biggest argument I've heard is that it will fry ya main Bearings...
I have PS and Air Con-D16y8 Auto.
Any feedback plz guys.
Not trying to thread hi-jack but any info will benifit us all right.
Transzex??

at least you have a y8...i have an automatic y7 with power steering and a/c. i need the y8 and a greddy kit pretty much

Is the y8 a stronger tranny? I think so.I'm gonna Turbo mine at 6-7 psi in the future.A couple of years when I get some $$$ :hammer: .
im pretty sure the power steering pulleys and the alternator pulleys are ok. i wouldnt put anything other than factory on the crank tho. unless you have it balanced in with the rest of the rotating assembly

Save your money, honda is smarter than some knock off company.
thanks for all the help
ouch my head hurts. now as i read this and also read the other forums link my questions leads to this.

if droping in a crank pulley into a engine which has been drag around the block several time and has those stratosphere miles is not the best idea. what about an engine which is being rebuild and balance, is it a better idea? since it's being balance shouldn't it be a better idea or not?
wow, you guys are going to love my pictures when the car is done.

I have an eGay $20 aluminum underdrive crank pulley, milled the 2 unused teeth sets (teeth for p/s, a/c belts) and tonight I took the end mill and put 8 holes going parallel with the bolt.

It weighs .61 pounds.

because your motor gets balanced to how the pulley is.... when you go to another pulley like a lightweight.. it unbalances the motor and could screw it up

lets talk long stroke harmonics.........

esp. since D16's have longer strokes that ANY OEM B series motor.

lets review, your going to damage your crank, but not only that, in the pursuit of an extra half horsepower, you weakened the pulley to the point where now you have to worry about it breaking and taking out the timing belt, along with the head as well.

Transzex knows what hes talking about. This has been covered so much. There is a reason the harmonic damper is there, Honda didn't just feel like spending that much extra money in design/production of their crank pulley!

How do you dampen a Caddy motor????

Bolt on a 20 pound weight to the balancer.

Now lets start with a inline 6 cylinder so the harmonic pulses are out of time and tend to cancel themselves out......wait, BMW already does that.

Ever wonder way most big trucks run I-6 diesels???????

TORQUE.

When any of this BS actually happens to my motor, then I will believe any internet RUMOR on here. I have been 35,000 miles with 0 problems, I will let that speak for itself.

Weakened the pulley? Give me a break . . . I haven't even put a picture of it up yet. So wait, you mean to tell that if the crank pulley breaks, the timing belt will go with it? Have you even seen behind your timing cover?

There are plenty of people on the internet with NO real world experience, If I wanted to hear that I can go on Corral.net, Stangnet.com and post up why I should get a 331 over a 347 because of its "Rod Ratio". Then I could post up about using stock 94-95 fuel lines which on the internet cannot support 500rwhp but I have helped put together a 352" with twin t3/t4s that made close to 850.

Some people . . .

I bought an Unorthodox Racing R crank pulley and will use it on my upcoming build. The R crank pulley is the lightened stock size without ac or ps pulleys.

I've read all the advice and if this were a daily driver I would think twice. This is a race only engine so it will see maybe 1000 miles a year.

I'll keep an eye on my oil pressure, if it starts to dip I'll have a pretty good idea why...

the physics behind the idea is correct whether you believe it or not.
If they are so great then why does NHRA/NDRA/IHRA ect all REQUIRE THEM. You can not compete in any NHRA sport compact event in any class besides brackets with out a SFI Balancer. Funny no matter how fast or slow they require you to have a harmonic balancer/dampener on your motor, maybe they help the motor and NHRA is tired of cleanup.
Heres my pulley setup, I guess I should go get a shiny pulley.
