Turbocharged twin engine CRX build

Hello d-series, I've been lurking for a few months and now I've decided to share my project with yall.

A couple years ago I wondered if anyone had made a car with two engines so I googled it and came up with these:
turbo twin engine hyundai
and somewhere someone put two of these in a mini cooper (couldn't find the link)
Hayabusa V8 engine
and of course the car and driver crx
Car Lust: Twin-Engine Honda CRX
I've always liked the crx and the idea of giving one twice the potential hp AND AWD to keep more of it stuck to the ground is well, lets just say my hearts beating a little faster just thinking about it.

So back in May I got the chance to buy a CRX. The poor thing was pretty beat up and abused so I got it cheap and thankfully won't feel as bad about tearing it up even more.

The engine in the car was a ZC however it had thrown a rod due to lack of oil :(

Here's a bit of the interior

and then after working all night (I was way to excited to sleep) I got a good bit of trim removed

This thing was a mess, however I found tons of change in the car (it's like a rebate with out the mail-in) and a bunch of tools (allen wrenches, box end wrenches, sockets, and a screwdriver). Also found two brand new rear brake rotors, exhaust gaskets, light bulbs, fuses and other odds and ends (at least 100 air rifle pellets).

When I first saw this thread I envisioned another noob failing at a complicated endeavor. Never expected to see it again.

Now that I see some of these updates, I can tell your committed to this. I'm glad to see you seeing this project through.

Competition Engineering 9401 Competition Engineering Roll Bars for Imports

main hoop

Competition Engineering 3000 Competition Engineering Strut Kits

that $370ish plus $1-200 for shipping

they shouldnt be charging more than a 3-500 for fitting it and welding depending on how much modification is needed to fit it all

keep at it mann...
So awesome, can't wait for more updates.

It doesn't specify if the tubing is DOM or EWS so I'm guessing (based on the price) that it's EWS since NHRA allows it. I don't know if I am willing to put a roll cage made from EWS tubing in a car I eventually want to run low 8's.

However I'm looking to put in at least a 12 point cage. Something more like this
Jegster 948805K Jegster ''Honda'' Roll Cage Kits
and even then I will probably attach the cage to the body at multiple other spots just to get a really solid/stiff chassis. Since the cage would be a bit overbuilt I might be willing to use EWS but I want to get some different opinions on that since it's a safety issue.
Kinda what I'm thinking for the roll cage. Lower hoop braces to connect to the front end of the rear engine bay, an X-brace to the rear strut towers and supports that go to near the rear bumper mounts. This should attach the rear drivetrain/suspension pretty solidly to the rest of the vehicle.

I prefer, abs many more cage builders are also starting to prefer the double parallel door bar style, at least on the driver's side, as it moves the cage farther from the driver, thus providing a better zine for protection for the driver in the event of a side impact. I would also highly recommend looking at modern cages that incorporate footwell intrusion protection, as that is important for the run cans we drive.
I am so completely glued to this thread. Just read the whole thing! AWESOME STUFF!
Updates? Or dead?
Not dead, no updates yet though. Waiting for more $$ :(
Leave it to texas.... is this all for the novelty value or actual performance? with all this work you could have built one monster engine and tracked down wagovan AWD parts instead.

An AWD 600whp CRX would have be equally or even more so badass
I'm glad to see you do this project! I did this with a 2000 H22 prelude. I'm sure you are figuring out that fab is actually the easiest and finding time and figuring out all the "little details" like cooling, fueling, electrical and controls is the hardest:) keep going! It will be soooooo worth your effort! I got 400hp (stock), AWD, and get 0-60 in 4.5 sec. The feeling of both engines hitting VTEC gets my hairs to stand up every time, oh and cornering, just awesome! Keep it up!:)
This is pretty awesome, hope to see thing complete one day!
2 years....no update..... most likely in someone's backyard being parted out. Sad. I was tossing around the idea of twin L67 engine/auto trans in one of my del sols after watching that twin engine gtp. Stock shortblock of an l67 have seen north of 800whp..... 1600whp, awd delsol? 2R lambo contender? yes please. I even have a spare del sol chassis..... hmmmm.....
I'm really wanting to get back to this project, it's just been sitting at my dad's house. I just don't know if I will have the time or place to work on it. I miss having a little Honda to drive around :(

I'm trying to get access to a welder (hopefully I can borrow one), once I have that I'm back in business. I'm also gonna look for a couple d16a6 motors. I do still have a d15 from my civic so I can use that to check for clearances and such in the meantime.

Reading back through everything and I'm thinking I will use this kit, at least as a starting point. I will probably wait a week or two to order but I'm so excited to finally get back to this project :D
