I was wondering if for the purpose of claying a cylinder, it is ok to temporarily engage the vtec solenoid with a direct 12volts for a certain time(however long it takes me to clay #1 cylinder, install head-2 crank revolutions-remove head and inspect)...

Won't work. The 12V only opens the solenoid. You need oil pressure to engage the cam.
oh yeah thats right..damn...back to the books i guess

if you disasemble the assembly, you can switch around the little pistons to lock one of the valves in a cylinder.

yeah it looks like thats the common method and I will have to do that, I was just a little worried to go that route as I remember the rocker assembly on my a6 head flying apart when I was tring to remove it all to get at the magical cam for my b2. Then again I was in n00b land
