Hello,
I have a 99 EX Civic with the d16y8. I am running the stock OBD2B ECU.

I decided to try a P28 OBD1 ECU I bought from a ITA SCCA racer. He told me he made 120 to the wheels with and intake, header and exhaust using this computer. IT is chipped and they used uberdata to create the tune. I used a OBD2B to OBD1 adapter at the ECU.

The car run great. The one issue is when the RPM goes over 5K the tachometer stopps working. I know the rpm cutoff has been disabled because this revved higher than before. I am going to blow this up unless I have a working tach.

Any ideas?

connect tach direct to tach out on the icm and disconnect engine speed pulse wire from ecm to tach. ..
if that didn't work use a different icm like the old obd1's with hitachi written on it,

Did you try putting stock ecu back in place to verify rpm issue is EITHER new or only with OBD1 setup?

This should have been the first step in diagnosing annoyances like this!
