This, some white smoke in the mornings or after sitting a while is normal, lots of white smoke all the time isn't.

non turbod. all stock y8 except the z6 cam but i have an aem tru time gear for that. i did start it after it got super cold outside. but it got to normal temp and was still blowin smoke.

sounds like the timing belt is too tight to me or maybe a bad pulley.

ill check both and replace if necessary before i go pullin the head off. i completely forgot about 2 months ago i stupidly put a stage 2 cam in with an auto tranny and overtightened a spring. loud clunk happened but shut car down immediately. may replace the valves with the ones out of this z6 head i have sittin around since i had them cleaned. new headgasket for good measure

Adding cams isn't going to help you much without a tune and maybe an adjustable cam gear. Just an fyi

i have had the same z6 cam in there for over a year with no issues period. and i mentioned above that i have an aem tru time cam gear and its retarded 4.5 correctly for the z6 cam in the y8 head.
