Hey guys, I'm new to the forum - I have been actively reading all of your posts but hadnt registered.

I have a 98 EK civic with a d16y6 - same as your american sohc vtec d16y8.

now... SS AUTO CHROME, they have a d16 turbo kit...

I wanna know is it rubbish or not? its hard to find a turbo manifold without going custom for a dseries. whats your comments?

not really familiar with ss auto chrome ?? but ... Edelbrock here in the states has a bolt on turbo kit for your motor ... ( our y8 ) its supposted to be the best on the market ... every thing fits ... manifold, piggyback system, piping, injectors, ball bearing turbo, fmic ... EVERYTHING .. if i were you id look into that kit ... modacar.com has it under " turbo kits "

The Turbo kit you mention is alittle out of my range as its imported into New Zealand so its like your price + freight and customs added being prolly the most expensive turbo kit on the market - but i agree it looks perfect.

with ss autochrome its $600 for turbo + manfiold + downpipe.. great buy i think.

Just my opinion... you spend that $600 now.. expect to replace it later. I would stick to the companies that actually test and use their own stuff on real world applications.

i would really like to know the real deal with OBX stuff. People keep bashing it but no one has had ne concrete evidence. Yes it does seem cheap for what it is but does it work? Someone who has experience with it please tell me whats up with OBX and the chrome stuff. Especially the manifolds?

Look at the manifolds for one thing. does it look like an efficient design? just because it has a big plenum, doesnt mean its efficient. how are the runners connected to the plenum, they are just big pipes welded to each other. Unlike the skunk, OEM, Edelbrock ones, those are truly designed by engineers that designed them for optimum flow.

If those OBX stuff worked, we'd have them on our race cars already.

OBX ??? :shock: your tripping .. thats the one of the worst companies out there ( running a close race with APC, Matrix and Tsudo ... those are all cheap knockoff companies thaT COPY good companies ( hks, apex'i, GReddy/ Trust , Injen, Dc Sports ) best products with cheaper , crapier quality materials ... dont waste yout time ... but if you wanna be " different " and buy all that crap cause everyone SAYS its crap .. then go right ahead .. but there is a good reason people bash OBX for being a wack ass company ... I'm still debating this topic as the quality and performance of a custom manifold would be still the same as ss chrome becuase they havent spent $$$ for r & d.

So do these manifolds tend to crack or the performance level is no where comparable to greddy?

I think the design of the SS manifold is great. Looks like it flows really well and they have addressed some comon downpipe issues. I believe the welds and the relatively thin steel the manifold is composed of is the weak link.

Bro, I have an OBX header and Adj Cam and so far they have worked. Like someone said before, they are copies, but since they are copies they are the same exact thing but without paying the brand name price. But those are minor parts, a turbo kit does have a huge impact in your car. I would suggest you either go to a Salvage Yard there and get some Subaru turbo parts and builr your own custom turbo rather than get one from the states and blow your whole engine up! But that is just me... :wink:
