Skunk2 Cam Gear

Im Getting A Skunk2 Cam Gear. Im Wondering Whats The Most I Could Advanced Or Retard My Timing W/ Out Hurting The Engine. Right Now Im N/a So I Wanna Advance The Timing. I Heard +/-3 Degrees Is The Limited But Im Not Sure. Please Point Me In The Right Direction Guys Thanks.

i don't really believe in advancing the cam timing myself. i think it's backwards. i would retard the cam 2-3 degrees and then turn the ignition timing up to about 18-20*btdc.
18-20 btdc? what do you mean by that? Im' trying to learn as much as possible. Will that cause knocking of the engine?

it shouldn't if you adjust the fuel pressure a little.


basically, the stock timing on 96-00 motors is 12btdc, i'd bump it up to that with the 2 deg cam retard. retarding the cam timing relieves pressure in the cyl's.
Advancing the cam timing will get low end power gains and retarding the cam timing will get high end power gains. Just thought i'd put that out there.

So which way should I move the dizzy to get to 18 from 12?
i think it is toward the firewall. someone correct me if i am wrong. dont go more than 3degrees either way. i would retard 2-3degrees if it was me to put the power on the big end. that is a lot of timing. make sure you run good gas if you do that. listen for detonation.
