ok i'm new to this pulling apart long blocks, i bought my car with a blown head gasket, i pulled off the head and found these funny spots in the cylinders. are they supposed to be like this? also is there anyway I can tell if the bottom end is good or not? I don't really wanna spend money on a head gasket & head skim just to find out the engine sucks. i didnt get to do a proper compression test, only by ear & it sounded like 2 cylinders where lacking a bit (#1 & #2). I'm hoping that was just the head gasket.

Rebuild the motor. Go out a get a bottle brush or a Honing brush and resurface the cylinder walls. Or if your lazy go get another motor.

That would be a very risky decision. It might not last off your driveway. Just save up some more money and do what Acid suggested.
