You have a short shifter? I know sometimes if those aren't put in like anally perfect it'll cause that kind of slop and then another friend ended up just replacing the entire shift linkage and his went away so it's hit or miss on fixing that one i suppose. the joint that connects it to the transmission is known for getting loose as the shift linkage gets older and I read somewhere online it can be fixed fairly easy. Sorry I can't be of more help.

i had this same problem in my first coupe. try another linkage. make sure where the hinge part is kinda looks like a T that swivels is not sloppy. make sure it feels somewhat tight but not tight... man its hard to explain. just make sure its not sloppy feeling. this will solve ur prob. oh and put ur bushing kit in that and it will feel fuckin awsome.

A) make sure someone didn't use a bolt inplace of the bitch pin

B) get a new shifter. the o-rings in the OEM unit die from the heat of the cat right below it, esp. after the heatshield falls off.
