Hi guys,

Just wondering what the difference between the S20-xxx and S40-xxxx trannys are. Are parts interchangable and/or does one have a higher FD than the other one?

I've got a S20-xxx gearbox that comes with my D16A8 here in Australia and I managed to pickup a S40-xxx box (out of a a SOHC EK civic)

Just wondering if I can use the S40-xx box in my car / if the parts are interchangable.

I'm not sure what cars these tranny's come with over there in the US

well, over here there are two versions of the s20. an A version and a B version. The A version has smaller bearings so some parts are not compatible with the B version (EX, Si... closer gear ratios).

I would have to hazard a guess that the s20 and s40 are even less similar. Although they both bolt to any d-series motor.

S20 = alum. shifter forks 92-95 USDM Civic's
S40 = steel shifter forks 96-00 USDM Civic's

The shifter fork assembly's are NOT interchangable.
