If I want to rebuild a D16 do I have to get it machined? like Bored and Honed? And can I use Y8 rebuild kit for a Y7? Because I'm planning to swap the head to Y8 with the rebuild. Also do I need any special tools to disassemble D16Y7 besides, combination wrench set, torque wrench, socket set? Thanks for you help in advance.

currently rebuilding my d15. had 200k miles and was in good running order when taken down.

i had the cylinders honed (no bore), and the block decked for flatness.

Then on the head, i had then do a valve job, mainly since there was pitting on the exhaust side to make sure they seal up nicely and i get good compression, as well as the mating surface of the head checked for straitness and resurfaced.

i would look online and find a factory service manual for the 92-95 civic. it has a lot of information about engine overhaul.

as far as the rebuild kits for y7 and y8, someone else will have to answer that question

you dont have to get it hone but it will be better to seat the new piston rings you put in and will help with the motors compression.
the only tools you need are a torque wrench, piston ring compressor, plasti gauge and a basic metric socket set
you will also need to adjust the valves with a feeler gauge
all the gaskets can be had from ebay they are about the same as autozone quality
dont cheap out on your bearings though use something like acl

@IMI4tth3w Thanks for your advice, I order service manual last night, still learning while gathering tools and parts. Trying to get as much information I can and want to do everything right the first time.
@ahardy25 Ok I will add those to my list, how about this rebuild kit (Japan Engines) or DNJ rebuild kits for D16Y7? How about any rebuild kits besides ebay?
