I just got done swaping a Y8 motor into my 94 civic hatch and got it running just fine but it's been leaking oil. Now that it's started to warm up i can actually clean the block and stuff w\o freezing my ass off. Any way I found that it's comming from the rear main seal, what is the cause for the rear main seal to blow out???

It's usually from old age, maybe that motor sat for a while with no oil and dried up the seal a bit. If it is actually blown out (I doubt it), it could be from blow-by. It's a cheap and easy fix if you can do it yourself. Good luck

I have seen

contamination
no lubrication on seal at start up burn up the seal
improper installation
age hardening
excessive crankcase pressure (usualy just bypasses the seal however)
damaged cranks (scratches cuts etc...)
torn or damaged seals

Ultimately as long as it isnt crank case pressure or a damaged crank what does it matter? Just replace it

I was just wondering if there was something that i might have done when i put the crap back in.

How do you get rid of excessive crankcase pressure?
If the engine has much more than 100k, was probably just its time. Seals usualy need to be replaced from 100-150k depending on frequency of oil changes.
