It depends on the sensor.. Some send a voltage, while others impart a variable voltage drop on the circuit. for example, a 1 wire o2 sensor sends a 1v OR a 0v signal to the ecu depending on the oxygen content in your exhaust, while your TPS sensor acts like a potentiometer, using variable resistance to drop or raise voltage on the line, which is then measured by the ecu.

do you have a sensor in mind that you want to know about?

nah...i'm planning on wiring tucking...and i wanted to know what sensor wires are safe to extend....i recall the length of the wire changing the signal, but im not really sure about the details of it....

as long as you seal the area where you lengthen the wires it will be ok.. if you let moisture get into the splices, and or they touch ground, thats when you have problems... too much moisture will make more resistance, causing mis readings

All of that is true. Wire resistance does increase as a function of the length of the wire, but it is more of a worry in great lengths, like 25 feet or more. adding 5 or 6 inches here or there won't make a big enough difference for the ecu to care.

im all moving my fuse-boxes, wiring harness's to the trunk....i dont think thats 25 ft.....but its pretty long....i did a ohm reading on speakers...and a couple feet of wirings changed the readings from 8 to 10....i dunno if it was cause the wires were skinny as heck..but it had me wondering about my wire tuck project
