so i bought this 97 civic hx that was converted to a dx for $300 to turn into a dirt track car. problem is i have no key and dash was alredy removed. so i have since busted the lock on the column so i can turn the wheel but now i am completely lost on how to do the ignition as i am not a wiring specialist at all. i am actually an electrical hater. i have been a member of this site for a long time and have learned alot and applied alot to my 95 lx sedan with zc cam and z6 im but this has me stumped . and help would be aprieciated thank you all.

I doubt an igntion switch is going to cost you a race. And that's why you turbo and smoke v8s
But yea the basic of it is hook up a toggle to the battery then output to on of the ignition wires.

So toggle 1 Batt. In / ign1 and acc out
Toggle 2 batt in / ign2 out
Then push button will be relay in battery in to 30
87 out to starter
86 in from toggle 2
85 ground from push button.

That way the toggle 2 must be on for the push button for the starter to work.

That's pretty much the simplest way of doing it.
You can remove the relay for the starter tho

No turbo = No kicking ass against V8's

1.6L vs 4.0L-5.7L
To be fair, if it's dirt track, and he swaps in a well built F/H/K motor, he might have a shot. That's a long shot, though.

What xile said about the push button.... But a new ig switch is plug and play. Up to you.

almost got it wired in got to dark im off tomorrow gonna mess with it more then. but there all pure stock novas and comaros with a 3200 lb wieght limit and bone stock 350 unless there 101in wheel base then they have to run a bone stock 305 and they dont really even have a set of rules for me. its basically me run some lap and theyll put me in a class thatll be close. im running a y7 block y8 head with y7 valvetrain and 2 layers hg with y8 im and exhaust mani. but they did say i have to run the trans that came with the car so i have to work with a stupid 3.7 fd

explain to me how you put a y7 valvetrain in a y8 head.
and sucks about the classes but i wouldnt go hacking up the dash harness either. Its not worth the weight lost. TO much of a headache later on down the road.

The transmission could be modified. Are they going to make you pull it and crack the case open before each race? No. Modify the trans. They don't know what they can't see.
