Poppin' flames?

so is poppin flames out of the exhaust a sign of something bad lol? I've always thought it looked awesome and I kinda wished my car would do it and tonight me and my buddy were playing around on the interstate and he said when I passed him, it popped a couple flames out. I've been told that once before too. I just wanted to make sure that's ok. I've heard of lean popping before but Im pretty sure Im not lean lol. The leanest I get is MAYBE 12.3 and that's because Im not fully dyno tuned yet. So yea, what causes that and is it ok or bad?

usally its from unbuned fuel in the exhaust, shouldnt worry to much, all though ive heard of peoples mufflers blowing up from it...haa
i thought it was unburned fuel in the exhaust. condition of running rich, but im not sure

its probably cuz your running rich
flame kits....wow

if ur muffler explodes that wud suck
would it be from me running rich or would it be from when you let off the gas it goes to like 18.0 a/f for just a sec during decel?
does it blow black smoke when under acceleration
It did the other night. I was holding it at like 4500 and then punched it and a big black cloud shot out...I guess it's just running rich. Im glad though...better than running lean!
yep. its runnin rich allright, wach out tho, it could foul out your plugs and gas milage will go away also...
yea Im gonna pull my plugs tomorrow. It's got a miss every so often but I think it's from my BOV pushing on my #1 cylinder plug wires and fucking up the connection for just a sec
ya it sounds like its a little rich to me. thats the way my d15b7 is not it pops everytime i shift gears, but im not really sure why its running rich.
I have never seen a muffler explode...that would be sweet lol
My turbo datsun did that... ran fine normally but under boost it sounded like the craziest harley you've ever heard in your life, along with the huge orange/green flame 6 to 8ft out the back... LOL
Rich runner FTW, my car still does it at times when I shift or let off the gas. I think it sounds pretty mean and people look at your car thinking holy shit that thing must be a beast!!!
How long has it been doing it? Did it start just recently or when you put the turbo on?
I have never seen a muffler explode...that would be sweet lol
Ever hear why magnaflow wouldnt warenty there mufflers if installed on a RX7? cause they would blow holes in them, my buddy did after a run to 120mph all i heard was BAM! and the car was sooooooooooooo loud

Thats legit.

I was driving on the freeway the other day, and this stock accord in front of me shifted, and the muffler blew up, it was tight, until all the little bits of baffling went everywhere.
It's been doing it since I put the turbo on I guess. I've been told a while back that it did it and then again the other night. Only been boosted for like 2.5-3 months. It's probably just running rich sometimes. What makes it only do it when you shift or let off the gas? It's very interesting.
it happened because you're a little rich, most turbo cars are, and your exhaust got hot enough to ignite the unburnt fuel to make that flame. thats why you see the majority of the cars in like le mans or JGTC throw flames. it can also happen if you've been in boost for awhile and since you were on the interstate its very plausible that you were in boost or near it to make your exhaust really hot. if you run straight pipe it happens a lot more.
